Default Muscles - Guns, Babes and Lemonade

I should imagine that this is an album of late 2007 that not too many people here checked out. I didn't like this guy and his work at first but after a few listened over some time, I now think this album is simply GREAT. The vocal production style is probably the most prominent feature but going beyond that, this guy possesses an awful lot of wit and has created an overall sound that is both daring and audacious, but also highly listenable electro-pop at the same time.

Please listen to this one song, and form your opinion based off of it. If you like it, chances are you'll love the album:

MySpace.com - Muscles - Melbourne, AU - Gospel / Techno / Soul - www.myspace.com/musclesmusic

LISTEN TO "ICE CREAM" (I love this song!). Pretty please.

Then say what you think .

I love this album! I'll be honest, the vocals took me a bit of getting used to, but it pretty much grew on me. Makes me wanna dance

I hate this album (probably THE worst thing I head last year) and so does everyone I know, and none of us can figure out why he gets SO MUCH hype. He's really terrible and there are way better Australian artists/bands that make similar music that are a billion times better than him. I really don't get it at all.

Because he's the greatest thing to *ever* come out of Australia...

well, second to Lleyton Hewitt. And Strictly Ballroom.

Ok, so like, I'm really bloody disappointed that it seems so few people have commented on this album. C'mon guys, somebody give it a listen! I promise there's a fair chance of liking it! Not that that means much, but whatever. Either way. This guy has come up with something really damn good. I don't care what any Aussie here has to say, this guy is the saviour of Australian music and there is nobody in their whole indie scene [that I know nothing about] who can compare. Go Muscles! I Love You. I Wanna Have Your Babies.

Cut Copy alone is 3 billion times better than he is. Pretty much anything else released on Modular is better, actually.

You haven't said on so much as one occasion what it is that you don't like about it or what makes Muscles bad. That doesn't bode well with a fair criticism. Seems you've got something personal going on there.

I didn't know that suddenly someone had to have a reason for personally disliking something.

His music sounds cheap and generic, it isn't catchy (it's mostly just cheesy), his voice is annoying, and I've heard a million other bedroom producers do it before. He's just boring and overhyped, it sounds like he spent five minutes in Ableton using the most generic presets he could find and then sang over it. He's pretty much everything bad about these indie/dance Electro House producers all at once.

Well, "personally disliking something" without reason is pretty idiotic, so I naturally assumed you were above that. Anyway, there's always a reason.

Examples please.

The vocals are the most creative thing on the record.

Ok, so tell me of 2. Good luck.

He writes catchy dance numbers, he's humorous, his wit comes across naturally without him having to try hard with the lyrics...he's everything that's GOOD about the Australian indie/electro acts and much more. Wanna clue why he's hyped so much? Because he's that bloody good, mate.

Oh, and by the way, have you listened to Guns Babes & Lemonade? Please answer honestly.

Ok, I've listened to Ice Cream and it's alright. Not sure what the big deal about his voice is...I don't hear anything particularly off putting or strange about it...O.o...

I'll try to download the album but the songs on the myspace aren't that spectacular. Edit: Except for CHOCLATERASPBERRYLEMONANDLIME
