I did not like For Emma, Forever Ago. I tried it, listened to it multiple times, and everything. I just couldn't get into it. That said, it's the only music by I think any of his bands that I've heard before (is megafaun related? didn't like that either). Is there anything else that sounds much different that would be worth trying, or will I probably just not like his sound at all? I'm inclined to believe it's the second.

You could try the recent release from 2009, Volcano Choir - Unmap. It's another side-project with some other guys from Wisonsin (some band related to bee's, i'm not familiar with them!). You should check the album though out, I really enjoyed it the first few times I listened and like you I'm not so taken aback by FE,FA. It's sort of experimental ambient music, quite interesting.

Love the New moon track with St. Vincent (can't really tell she's on it though, which is a plus as I really dislike her stuff).

For Emma, Forver Ago kind of creeps into your conscious. It takes a good few listens but gradually it all begins to seep in until eventually the whole thing leaves you with this warm, fuzzy feeling inside. Great album.
