Funny how its also quite trendy to go against a trend, great little paradox

Ahh, this is hard to explain...

What I meant was, just because every blog and magazine is blowing it like you say (on top of you not liking it), doesn't mean it's just flavor of the month indie trash.

I personally couldn't care less if it was trendy or not.
For a debut album it's nothing short of incredible and for once we have an album that seems to be getting all the credit it deserves.
God only knows how they're going to top, or even match it with their next album release, but with the musicianship they possess I've got no doubts that they probably will.

Right. I don't think the music was made to fit into any current trends (like, for example, The Black Kids). It's very different. But it's still trendy in the sense that it's popular. I agree with you though, despite my distaste for it, it was reasonably unique to hear.

I don't think so. To me, it fits in totally with the whole primativist neo-folk thing going on - a movement I have very little patience or taste for. I group Fleet Foxes with outfits like The Ruby Suns, Dodos, High Places... in fact, at least 2 out of 3 of those bands are undoubtedly more innovative and "cutting edge" than Fleet Foxes. Fleet Foxes are just more accessible.

Fleet Foxes is one of those *shrug* groups for me (at-least after listening through their EP and buying the S/T at my local Starbucks three months ago). Pretty at times, but far from jaw-dropping compared to groups in the past who did the acoustic guitar/layered vocal harmonizing schtick.

Yeah I can't say they entirely blow me away but it is really nice to have a new record of this sort. It is very listenable all the way through. I do like the EP better... English House is an incredible tune. I can't say its anything totally ground-breaking but it hasn't stopped me from listening to it a good handful of times since buying it last week.

I like their debut, but I really didn't go into it expecting to hear something new or groundbreaking, they're just another one of the many acoustic-folk bands that are really catching on right now. And as far as 2008 goes in that genre, I like Bon Iver's debut better. Fleet Foxes is still a good album though.
