Jellybones 12-23-2005 01:17 PM

i love iron & wine! it is very good music to sit back and get lost in

sleepy jack 12-23-2005 01:19 PM

but whatever...they/him/whatever...were/was pretty good. i liked.

David Frost 12-24-2005 12:07 PM

iron and wine is sam beam. he has been playing since 1999, most of his stuff is on sub pop records. he has played a few shows with other people, but all of his recordings, and songs are all by him.

Expletive Deleted 12-24-2005 12:13 PM

Iron & Wine kind of bores me. The EP from earlier this year is the only thing by him that I've liked, and that was mostly because "Woman King" just flat out pwns.

David Frost 12-25-2005 11:30 AM

sea and the rhythym. best ever.

TheBig3 02-13-2006 11:48 AM

A Perfect Sonet game me "our endless numbered days" and I'll say its probably one of the better folk albums I've heard. Cinders and Smoke and Teeth in the Grass are my favorite, but his playing is alot better than one would expect and its diverse for someone who doesn't ever leave one pattern of singing.

I really enjoy this.

EDGE 02-13-2006 02:18 PM

:) in my top three.

TheBig3 02-13-2006 03:17 PM

Albums ever?

Imonlydancing 03-18-2006 04:22 AM

I like Iron and Wine.
Have just been listening to them lots.
I like:
Lions mane
Southern Anthem
& Naked as we come

swim 06-04-2006 10:54 AM

I've been listening to a lot of Iron and Wine lately. Samuel Beam is a great song writer. The Creek Drank the Cradle is my favorite album.

tdoc210 07-28-2006 03:39 PM

Myspace isn't working for me so I don't know if thats the right link..

Pink Moon 09-27-2006 05:49 PM

Sam Beam is a wonderful songwriter, which I think is a rarity. Our Endless Numbered days is a sweet album. I wish he'd go back to similar recording quality of The Creek Drank the Cradle but I know he won't.

Laces Out Dan! 09-27-2006 05:52 PM

Ethan hooked me up with two Iron & Wine albums last night...ive only had time to listen to "Our Endless Numbered Days" and i enjoyed it.

i can't stand limewire. soulseek and azureus are where it's at.

Laces Out Dan! 10-21-2006 10:11 PM

I'd just like to reiterate my love and that his discography is damn awesome. I'd go as far to say my favorite singer-songwriter.

The Dave 05-03-2007 08:49 AM

he really is amazing, though all that I've listened to is Our Endless Numbered Days.

The Dave 06-09-2007 04:33 PM

Bump

The Creek Drank The Cradle is amazing as well, I just picked it up a few days ago and I'm loving it, his voice is so soothing.

sleepy jack 06-10-2007 06:53 PM

The Shepard's Dog leaked, its mp4 though.

swim 06-10-2007 06:55 PM

ethan=new link mastah? Oh I think so. Thanks a damn ton.

Bane of your existence 06-11-2007 06:11 AM

Mad love.

pheurton 06-11-2007 01:37 PM

Haha iron and wine has gone electronic.

TheBig3 07-06-2007 09:02 AM

This new "boy with a coin" song is some of the best work I think he's done. What I like about I&W is that he uses all devices to create a mood. Its not moody like the atmospheric garbage that gets coined as revolutionary even when its the same repackaged feedback they stole from their predecessors.

The instruments are characters and feeling and events in an iron and wine song, and I really think this is up there with my favorite tracks from Mr. Beam.

Uh, you realize Iron and Wine sounds exactly like Nick Drake right? That falls under stealing from your predecessors category.

Anyway, theres only a few songs I sort of like, the woman king ep having the most of it. I can't really get into much of it though because I think Drake does it better. Is the new album any different or still the same old stuff?

Ornette 07-06-2007 05:01 PM

New album is like Woman King but even better and more textured and full-sounding, plus the songs are really great.

sleepy jack 07-06-2007 05:04 PM

I may like it then.

The Dave 07-06-2007 05:43 PM

He doesn't sound EXACTLY like Drake...... but it's fairly close.

You know that your statement is subjective right? And furthermore, I will fight fire with fire and say you're a deaf bastard and that he sounds nothing like drake. Airy vocals predate drake himself, and I don't think anyone heralded I&W as the next giant revolutionary thing.

Did you even listen to the song before you hopped in here and got your condescension on?

I wasn't just talking about vocals, the whole whispery airy vocals over finger picked strumming combination acoustic guitar style IS something they both do, and Nick Drake did it first, so I don't understand how you can say he isn't repackaged feedback stolen from his predecessors when he is, he isn't original. Of course I could have misinterpreted your post, which wouldn't be that shocking and since when is sound subjective? You can say the Who sounds like 50 cent, that won't make it true.

You shouldn't really criticize anyone for being condescending, and yes I heard it, other than the added instruments it didn't sound much different though the fuller sound was nicer.

Well since I was comparing the atmosphere he creates with the (not to be confused with) atmospheric stuff most of the electronic acts create I'm comparing apples and oranges to illustrate the differences of my meaning. On top of that, given that he finger picks and uses airy vocals, how is he not ripping off Paul Simon then?

And you know, everyone uses this against me when I'm kicking their ass, but lets be honest, before this provocation, I could have cited two examples of you engaging in that activity in this post alone.

I just don't see the need to come into a thread and say "hey i never really like this guy because [act x] does it better." I'm not suggesting it get weeded out, but I fail to see the constructive nature of such posts.
