17 Seconds, Pornography, an Disintegration are the best.

I've had some troubles getting into The Cure. I'm really not all that familiar with their music at all so I would like to get to hear some, but for some reason I am really turned off by them. I'm not sure what it is but something about them bothers me. Does anybody have any reccommendations on where I should start? Any albums I should pick up?

A great starting point would be their Greatest Hits, that's where i started and where a lot of my friends started.

The best album to start with would be either The Head On The Door or Wish, they're both fairly accessible and have plenty of different moods. After that you can move on to Disintegration and the 'Dark Trilogy' (Seventeen Seconds, Faith & Pornography) and then the rest of their stuff.

You're the only one.

Ditto

Wish is horrible, but i've already gone into far too much detail about that.

I've only heard Disintegration and Pornography, but they're solid.

I'm not that interested in listening to any of their other stuff cause ppl say that those are their darkest albums and I really dont want to know what the others sound like if that's the case, but if I'm wrong correct me.

You should really give Faith a listen, it's the sound of manic depression. If this song doesn't ruin your day i don't know what will

There's plently of dark moments on their other albums though, The Head On The Door ends on a VERY downbeat note with Sinking. And Seventeen Seconds is well worth checking out, it was the start of their dark period.

P.S. Mods, can you change the thread title to something a bit more 'official', cheers

Wish has always been my favorite Cure album. Letter to Elise is maybe my favorite song, it almost always makes me cry a little.
