Takes a while to get used to the sound. I know it took me some 6-7 listens to get into Funeral...

Kevorkian Logic 05-03-2007 03:02 PM

They have a few songs that I think stand out, otherwise its generic indie rock.

adidasss 05-03-2007 03:19 PM

Lol, it's anything but generic...

Kevorkian Logic 05-03-2007 03:24 PM

most of it is generic to me, maybe I just get bored often listening to it that I label it generic.

Neighborhood #2
Crown of Love
Neighborhood #4

are the only songs I find worth listening to.

adidasss 05-03-2007 03:35 PM

What about Wake up, Neighborhood #1 and Rebellion (lies)? The whole album is a motherfucking masterpiece...

Kevorkian Logic 05-03-2007 03:57 PM

Neighborhood #1 is ok too, I probably should have included it. I just found myself zoning, the piano rhythm stays pretty constant and monotone the entire time and just feel the whole thing is a bit pretentious. They definitely could have pushed themselves a bit more technically harder.

3.5/5

adidasss 05-03-2007 04:01 PM

Have you heard Neon Bible?

Kevorkian Logic 05-03-2007 04:10 PM

No, a friend told me it wasn't worth the time, so I never bothered. Is it better?

adidasss 05-03-2007 04:45 PM

Well, maybe more accessible....

Sparky 05-03-2007 04:47 PM

i agree, funeral is amazing in my opinion. i certainly had a easier time getting into neon bible, i also reccomend there ep, my first introduction to the band.

so no then.

Urban Hat€monger ? 05-03-2007 04:59 PM

It wasn't until I saw them playing live that I was convinced they were any good.

adidasss 05-03-2007 05:03 PM

I would kill to see them live...

@Kevorkian: I wouldn't say it's better no, Funeral works better as a whole and will probably always be my favorite AF album. But Neon bible has some fantastic moments, namely Keep the car running, No cars go and Ocean of noise...so, I'd say while Funeral was a 5 star album, Neon bible is a very very good 4 star album...

Urban Hat€monger ? 05-03-2007 05:10 PM

So would I

It was only on TV :(

The Dave 05-03-2007 06:13 PM

I saw them on the tonight show or something like that a month or so ago, it was pretty amazing.

Kevorkian Logic 05-03-2007 06:38 PM

SNL. I did see that, or their first song at least my attention span can never make it through the whole show anymore.

tdoc210 05-03-2007 09:38 PM

i got neon bible in the le thingy, it was the same price, bt i havent lsitened to it

poloboy23 05-06-2007 09:38 PM

Arcade Fire's Last album sucked but all in all a quality band, would recommend to any of my friends.

Kevorkian Logic 05-07-2007 04:11 PM

dude. poloboy is your sn? I have to ask why?

poloboy23 05-07-2007 04:14 PM

its been my screen name forever, and its just so much easier to remember than my original one:
vampireslayer4294
:)

Kevorkian Logic 05-07-2007 04:29 PM

Buffy the Vampire Slayer?

DrinkInTillYouLoveMe 05-10-2007 08:47 PM

I didn't think it was possible to top Funeral (easily my all time favorite before Neon Bible came along) but, somehow, Arcade Fire pulled it off. I think Neon Bible is a great progression over their last masterpiece and if they keep going at this rate, they are going to go down as one of the best baroque bands ever in my opinion.

When I first got Neon Bible (about 4 months ago or so) I was blown away. I can appreciate every single track on the album but some of my favorites are No Cars Go (remake) Windowsill, The Well and the Lighthouse, and Keep the Car Running. I, without a doubt, recommend the purchase of this album. You will be one satisfied customer if you liked any piece of Funeral.

I've had funeral for a while and I just got Neon Bible recently. I haven't listened to it too much, but I really enjoy No Cars Go and the Well and the Lighthouse. They're a great and unique band. I'm glad to see that they'll stick around for quite a while.

Letcha 05-23-2007 07:37 AM

these guys are awesome. was really hoping they'd be at bonnaroo this year. i will see them live eventually, though. i like the old stuff (like us kids know) just as much as the newer stuff, too.

just for kicks 06-14-2007 06:11 AM

just picked it up to day and im very impressed with the album. its not a clone of the first, it differs which is good. its clear i need to play this with better speakers then im using at this moment to fully appreciate the atmosphere that the songs give off. Funeral is better then Neon Bible, but that is to be expected since second albums dont have high reputations to be outstanding. But over all i was very pleased :)

best tracks: black mirror, keep the car running, (antichrist television blues) and my body is a cage

Mouseketeer 06-15-2007 03:26 PM

Just got tickets to go see them, yay!

Awesome band, especially Funeral. I need to give Neon Bible more of a listen really. Which album do people prefer?

Sparky 06-15-2007 03:55 PM

funeral, but i still think neon bible is an amazing album, i don't understand why so many people find it so generic, i personally think they're both amazing.

joyboyo53 06-20-2007 03:02 PM

they found it generic because funeral (esp the neighborhoods) were earthshaking. and although neon bible offered some good tracks, it doesnt make me want to jump out of my seat and scream "ALEXANDER"

YouTube - U2 + Arcade Fire - Love Will Tear Us Apart Again

My opinion of the arcade fire has lowered very much.

joyboyo53 06-21-2007 09:26 AM

ever seen that movie where they created these agents who did these task for like a year and got paid a ton of money and would get their memory erased so they wouldnt have to remember it. well i would PAY alot of money if i could erase the memory that proceeds clinking the above link.

Shush Ethan, everyone knows Arcade Fire opened for U2 in their Vertigo tour. Which is when they were still a band that had just released Funeral.

The Arcade Fire frontman recently said some nasty stuff about Bono.

sleepy jack 06-27-2007 12:01 PM

My respect has come back in full.

joyboyo53 06-27-2007 12:25 PM

a wound that deep takes time to heal... :(

right-track 06-27-2007 12:32 PM

This shows more respect for Ian Curtis and 'Love Will Tear Us Apart', than that pitiful, insulting effort from Bono.

adidasss 06-27-2007 12:39 PM

 I totally expected an Arcade Fire cover of that song...>.> *duped...again*

Lol...I just realized the last couple of posts were actually about the cover....:(

Edit2: This post makes no sense...:(:(
