Were better than the Sex Pistols & about a million times better than all those crappy american 2 chord punk bands that litter this forum.

Do you have an m3 and can you say more about them?Cause it takes alot to be better than Ramones and the pistols.

Urban Hat€monger ? 12-24-2004 04:29 PM

They are John Lydon`s post pistols band, they fused electronic music with a punk attitude & were a massive influence on electronic & industrial music. Of course if you`re looking for 3 chord punk rock like the Ramones you`ll hate it , but if you`re the sort of person who beleives that music can sound aggrassive without the aid of loud guitars then you might find you`ll like this.

I`d choose their Metal Box album over Never Mind The Bollocks any day.

sleepy jack 12-24-2004 04:32 PM

Okay to tell you the truth there okay but nothing compared to the ramones.

Urban Hat€monger ? 12-24-2004 04:35 PM

Fair enough , but I don`t find the Ramones challenging enough personally.

sleepy jack 12-24-2004 04:37 PM

ahhn your opinion

I think PiL and Sex Pistols had a lot of talent even compared to the contemporary stuff that was popular then. But, it's hard to compare, because they sound so different, you'd almost forget it was Rotten. Annalisa and Public Image are really good songs, they're much better than any Pistols song.

tdoc210 11-29-2006 08:01 PM

Public Image LTD, Is very different from the psitols, and in many ways better, it still holds all of lydon's abrasiveness, ony in a more advanced form, the metal box album, or second edition, depending on format, is genius. Lydon's vocals are supreme, and the fusion of genres is intense. I have to thank urban for uploading this album, im sure this will turn into one of my favourite bands

White Lies 12-03-2006 03:00 PM

I got one of their albums - quite good, if a little hard to get fully into. Some very nice basslines may I add. I cant believe how diffeernt they are from the Sex Pistols.

tdoc210 12-03-2006 03:06 PM

^ they are way betetr, though i still like the pistols..pil is the ****

White Lies 12-03-2006 03:14 PM

Sex Pistols are pretty poor, PiL own them.

Friday 12-06-2006 03:01 PM

PiL was John Lydon's attempt of trying to reach something on the same scale as someone like Can. He didnt reach it but it is still decent music. Jah Wobble's basslines are insanely deep though. Which is always a plus point.

tdoc210 12-06-2006 03:42 PM

Pil, is better than can.. more enjoyable
The earl pil album. just called first edition, still has a very aggressive vein in it.

White Lies 12-06-2006 04:17 PM

Is "Can" a musician/band?

tdoc210 12-06-2006 04:19 PM

Its a prog/art band
its good
but weird

Urban Hat€monger ? 12-06-2006 04:20 PM

German band , I would highly recommend them

White Lies 12-06-2006 04:22 PM

Oh, right. If they're similar to PiL I guess I'll check it out. Whats the best album to get?

edit: thanks for tat Urban

Urban Hat€monger ? 12-06-2006 04:23 PM

Ege Bamyasi is probably the most accessable , as is Soundtracks.

If you like those then Tago Mago & Monster Movie should be next.

Tago Mago in the dark with headphones was my best musical experience ever.

I agree with Mamagarmr that First Edition is PiL's best album. Low Life being my favourite song on there.

slicedbread 12-10-2006 07:49 PM

oh wow, i'm glad some other people appreciate this band...i was a huge fan soon after they ended, but no one else that i knew really gave a damn about them

TheWaitingRoom 12-13-2006 04:20 PM

nah, as far as new wave/punk goes, they do nothing wrong technically. But every song sounds like im watching a music montage on a crappy "inspirational" movie.

I don't know what kind of inspirational movies you're watching that feature songs like "Death Disco" but I'd certainly be interested in watching a few of those.

Maybe they are a little mood specific, I can take them in about any mood though.
Rise is one of my favorite travel songs, even on a skateboard, but dig its movement on a motorcycle, if you get a chance try it on the road.

The pistols blew the house down, while PiL tried to get it without anyone noticing. Both bands tried to challenge popular music. I prefer the simplicity of the Pistols, loud and sarcastic Chuck Berry inspired rock n roll.

Talking to some friends about PIL we were all agreed that they blow the Pistols out of the water.

Metal Box = Wow

What do you lot think?

Akira 08-16-2009 11:08 AM

I think you should find the search button and employ. :)

I see, at least we are agreed.

What's your favorite album

DJB1975 08-17-2009 05:33 PM

Any self respecting music person should own at least 5 Can albums

Monster Movies to Soon Over Babaluma is regarded as their finest period but check out Landed and Flow Motion as well

Screen13 02-01-2010 01:33 PM

The first three albums and a couple of their singles after that, period. Then again, those three albums are enough for me to forget about the bland Late 80's excuses to continue the name. Appearing on Tops of the Pops miming "The Flowers of Romance," clearly shoving away anything else on that show, or even turning the Band Spotlight on American Bandstand into a fun moment in TV history has already earned them a place in music history.

...are basically the albums of theirs that I hold in the highest regard. The Order Of Death aside, I absolutely despise This Is What You Want, This Is What You Get, but besides that I wouldn't call any of their other studio albums below average. There are plenty of great songs from past the supposed cut-off point with PIL (Home, Don't Ask Me, Warrior, Seattle, God and so on), but I agree the rest of the albums aren't exactly brilliant.

loveissucide 02-01-2010 02:00 PM

Only have Metal Box, but lo and behold it is like nothing else under the sun.

It's funny how many people dislike This Is What You Want, This Is What You Get. It's my second favorite PiL album after Album/Compact Disc/Cassette.
