It's so fricken stupid when people avert themselves from certain artists because of the popularity of their songs. Bands are gonna be sell-outs, just because they have a mega-hit doesn't mean they're sucky bands. Modest Mouse is awesome, and Good News was a good album. No matter what people say.

A songs popularity has no bearing on their morales within the industry. I saw modest mouse on the unlimited sunshine tour with Cake. I thought they were god awful then and with the exception of Float on, I still think they are, so from this persons perspective, they havn't changed anything about them.

The thing that I hate about Modest Mouse is that I've been listening to their stuff for a couple years and so has my brother, we've both gotten crap about their name the whole time, we went and saw them and whenever I would wear a modest mouse tshirt my friends would always use their name to make fun of them, and then Float On came out and they all tell everyone that they've been listening to them forever, which sucks because they went from making fun of them because they had "a stupid name" to loving them just because one song got big. I think Modest Mouse deserves the fame their getting and this happens alot with bands that get big, but I hate it when people judge a band by their name or if their male or female or any other stupid reasonings to hate them.

Surely what you've said there is no reason to hate Modest Mouse, surely its more of a reason to ignore people who judge bands on anything other than the music. Yes, it's a rubbish name for a band, but so is Led Zeppelin.

Its called "MusicBANTER.com"

If you don't like it, nobody wants to hear you crying about how you forgot your name. Go somewhere else.

If you were offended by what I said about "indie street cred", then that's good. You SHOULD feel offended thinking about how a band should stay low just because you said so.

---By the way, what is "you are still I bigger moron." What you said doesn't make any sense. It's not like I posted here before or something, nor did I mention the words "David Frost" in the post. I'd really like to know.

Or maybe you said that you are the moron? I'm not sure.

Personal insults are the lowest form of debate.

I agree with everything that DigitalNexus said. Like bands for what they create, not for what record label logo is on the sleeve of the cd.

You all need to learn that bands don't owe you ****. Making music is their JOB, if they'd rather make millions of dollars then be brokeasses their entire lives than more power too them, it doesn't change the fact that they made tons of good music. I can't stand it when people bitch about a band "selling out" you try being in their position and i GUARANTEE you would all take the money in a heartbeat. If their music goes to **** from here than so be it, they produced a lot more quality music than most bands ever will, and they deserve to reap the benifits of being amazing musicians.

first off, the only reason that thrice was saying they sold out was because for years they preached about staying true to their music and not signing on with a bigger label for more money, that they were just in it for the music, yada, yada, yada, which is great. then they went and signed with a bigger label. which is also good, they've got more exposure, better means to reach the public with their music, which is all great, what band wouldn't want it? He's just saying that they acted slightly hypocritical after signing with a big label. Having said that, I think the bottom line is not which label they're playing under, how much they're getting, where they're appearing, the bottom line is that they're still making the music that THEY want to make, and not allowing themselves to become yet another packaged marketing ploy masquerading as an indie band to make more money. So long as they steer clear of that, they're still a great band, and they still have their integrety more or less in tact.
