I don't have the habit to often use this term 'math rock', but can this be referred to as an early influence on the genre, although it comes from the post-punk period? This Heat - Deceit (1981): lots of shifting, turning, starting, stopping and so on...But, it all kinda flows actually.

^ Quite a good album. I think post-punk in general had a big influence on indie rock and math rock, not sure about that album specifically, as a whole, but this particular track does seem to be on target though. Good call.

This Heat rule, never expected to see them mentioned in here.

I love June of 44, they're often written off as too derivative of Slint but after their first album I think they developed their own style really adeptly. Really like them!

I've been listening a lot to 65dos and I'm digging Giraffes? Giraffes!
I find 65dos quite post-rock... isn't it?
Btw, is "The fall of troy" math rock?

what is math rock?

khfreek 12-23-2010 08:17 PM

From wikipedia: Math rock is a rhythmically complex, guitar-based style of experimental rock that emerged in the late 1980s. It is characterized by complex, atypical rhythmic structures (including irregular stopping and starting), angular melodies, and dissonant chords.

interesting, that might be what i'm considered,

I don't believe in music genre labeling :dj:
