I don't have the habit to often use this term 'math rock', but can this be referred to as an early influence on the genre, although it comes from the post-punk period? This Heat - Deceit (1981): lots of shifting, turning, starting, stopping and so on...But, it all kinda flows actually.

^ Quite a good album. I think post-punk in general had a big influence on indie rock and math rock, not sure about that album specifically, as a whole, but this particular track does seem to be on target though. Good call.

This Heat rule, never expected to see them mentioned in here.
I love June of 44, they're often written off as too derivative of Slint but after their first album I think they developed their own style really adeptly. Really like them! |

I've been listening a lot to 65dos and I'm digging Giraffes? Giraffes!
I find 65dos quite post-rock... isn't it? Btw, is "The fall of troy" math rock? |
I LOVE YOU S&S. your music makes me happy, but sad at the same time. |
what is math rock?
|
From wikipedia: Math rock is a rhythmically complex, guitar-based style of experimental rock that emerged in the late 1980s. It is characterized by complex, atypical rhythmic structures (including irregular stopping and starting), angular melodies, and dissonant chords.
