I have to agree. A lot of math rock is pretty aggressive, I don't see a connection at all. Metal either, for that matter.

I think IDM (or cerebral electronic music as a whole) is far more like modern classical music.

It certainly is math rock, but it's certainly not the only thing worth listening to by them. Unless all you care about is math rock.
