Default Spasticus Autisticus: The Ian Dury Thread

Anybody here like this genius of a man? I wish I could've seen him live! (died in 2000) This dude was amazing, he had Polio since he was about 7 and would sometimes fall over on stage, unable to get up and keep shouting at the microphone while other people stood him up! For those of you who don't know him, check out "New Boots and Panties!!!" or "4000 Weeks Holiday"

Great man.

Some of his poetry was pretty good too.

"a love affair with Nina in the back of my Cortina, a seasoned-up hyena couldn't have been more obscener".

This should be in punk. Although putting it in there wouldn't do this man real justice.
The punks loved him and his band the Blockheads.
Wonderful range of songs, all with amazing lyrics.

Not quite punk, but your right on. He had some awesome punk songs.

Is the song you quoted (Billericay ****ie) on an add in your country? It's the tune to "Spray and Wipe" (disinfectant) in Australia and has been for years.

Default Ian Dury and the Blockheads

I did a search and can't believe that there is no thread for one of the U.K's greatest artists and lyricists? Taking aside the fact that he had Polio, the guy had a complete fuck you attitude with a band that backed him to the hilt with a funky sound that took in everything from music hall to Punk and still sounds like nothing else out there.

Ian Dury is a national treasure.

My absolute fave:

The album new Boots and Panties is essential.

EDIT: Scratch that. Just found a thread.
