Black Sheep Boy is one of the greatest albums of the past 10 years. I would go on some rant about it but if you think for real is nothing spectacular than it's your loss.

I do think we have to bring things into perspective here. OR have a distinctly American sound which has never set the scene alight over here in blighty. Add to that OR have a slight alternative edge means that exposure over here is minimal. HOWEVER they are a very competent band and I am liking them the more I play them. Their music is still a genre that a lot of people just don't like and that has to be accepted. There are many rock albums that deserve so much more credit but because of their genre they never will. That písses me off, but it's the way of the world.

This isn't the first time you've mentioned a cultural barrier of sorts that prevents people from enjoying a certain type of music. And as I'm sure I've pointed it out earlier, it's a ridiculous claim. The great thing about music is that it's universal. If a boy from an island in the Mediterranean can enjoy Ryan Adams (whom may I remind you enjoys great success in "blighty") and his alt country wail without ever having experienced anything similar to the South or relate to the melancholy of Cesaria Evora's songs without actually understanding a single word she's saying , I'm sure English lads will have no problems relating to some American indie/folk band signing in his/her own language...

Also:
You seem to forget that not everyone is as enthusiastic about music as you, me or most other people on MB. Different strokes for different folks, what works for some people doesn't for others. The sooner you accept that not everyone likes (or should like) what you do the happier you'll be...

I agree with pharaoh, OR are a good but certainly not a spectacular band...

A cultural barrier NEVER stops people listening to music but the sound of OR is not as popular as say guitar indie music in Britain, therefore they will have a lot less exposure or people will not neccessarily search for that sort of music. I was actually trying to placate Ethan and say that good music does'nt always get the exposure it deserves.

I have always accepted if people don't like my music. I don't get genuinely angry. Frustrated-yes, but then we all do if certain great albums get glossed over whether by the media or music fans in general.

I saw the post as you trying to find excuses why pharaoh didn't find OR as good as Ethan did...which was unnecessary...it would have been a different matter had anyone complained that OR isn't as popular as they should be in Britain.

Because I alluded to the fact that an alt.country band is not as acknowledged over here whether they are deserving or not. A lot of great British bands never make it in America due to their Englishness. Oasis never really cracked America and if someone said it was because they have a very English sound and mentality I would agree.

So how do you explain Ryan Adams' success? Nobody raised that point so it's really quite moot. All that's going on here is that pharaoh and I don't find OR to be the best thing since sliced bread...has nothing to do with where we're from.
