Well, this sure sounds encouraging.

From that link. Great job! |
Which album?
Hello, all. A couple of members recommended Tame Impala on this thread, and I was wondering which album to start with. Thanks.

They also have an EP which came out in 2008. It was intended just as a demo not for public consumption, but it's got some good stuff anyway. They also have a single which came out in 2010 (see top of page 7). Here's two good early songs which didn't make it onto either of their albums. Not sure I've linked these here yet. This first one is a really fun song! Really retro sound to this one. |
Brand-spanking new: Tame Impala covers a Micheal Jackson song:

Y'know I had never heard that MJ song before. Not a huge MJ fan but this is a pretty good song. TA does a nice job of covering it: Stranger In Moscow [Album Version] by Michael Jackson on Stranger In Moscow (Single) - Free Music Streaming, Online Music, Videos - Grooveshark |
Saw them at Primavera for the first time last year and thought they were pretty good, but I wasn't blown away, but I've gotten more into them since then. They're definitely a grower!
|
If anyone likes Flaming Lips they did a collaboration with them last year called Children of the Moon. The guitar sound is phenomenal! Worth a listen.

I really dig this band. When I first heard them I coulda sworn it was John Lennon reincarnated! HAH!
|
I don't know why they get so much press. They are just a rehashed Wolf & Cub as far as I am concerned !
|
Even Gene Simmons likes Tame Impala!

I think "Elephant" is a very cool song, but all of their other stuff is a little bland to me. Anyone else think that Kevin Parker sounds exactly like John Lennon?

Well, at least we know he's working on his next album (and has been for some time). He just doesn't know when it'll be done.

New Tame Impala song from their next album!
Tame Impala Share "Let It Happen", Announce Tour | News | Pitchfork Very different from his previous stuff, much more disco/80's-techno sounding. Also a big North American tour announced. |
It's familiar, but definitely an 80s vibe, no bad thing. I'm digging it.
|
Having just listened to it a second time, it occurred to me maybe he's trying to compete with Daft Punk? In his own way.
But it's only one song, will have to wait to see what the rest of the album sounds like. |

Hmmm. According to this

That said, it makes me wonder if that's the direction the new album might go anyway. I wonder if this was maybe a "leftover" track from recording sessions for the album, and he/they decided to release it as a standalone single? Anyway we'll find out eventually. |

Must admit, I like the direction he's going. Kevin Parker doing psychedelic synthpop would be mindblowing.

Im with Sidewinder. It seems Kev is hanging out with Mark Ronson too much.

New Tame Impala album coming out later this year will be called Currents. Plus a new song from the album:

They're using The Bold Arrow of Time in a Bud Lite commercial!
|
I can't wait for the new album!
I'm really into all their previous material, and after listening to the new tracks, I'm a quite curious about how the new album will be! |
Oh, hey, I'm listening to Lonerism right now.
|
The current issue of Under the Radar has an interview with Kevin Parker, a must-read if you're a Tame Impala fan. He's definitely branching out, the two new songs released for the new album definitely give you a sample of what the rest of the album is like ... though he also said it's his most diverse album yet.
Excerpt: "All this maturation isn't just a sign of personal maturation; Parker says it's a necessity if he's going to continue to push himself to grow as an artist. He knows he could churn out psych-pop epics for the rest of his life, but he'd be bored and soon his listeners would be, too." So I guess we can start to expect the unexpected on future albums. |
Coachella
I can't wait to see what direction the rest of their album is going in. It seems like it will be more electronic music influenced. Also, anyone hear about the Jamie XX/Coachella controversy about playing "let it happen"?

And yet another song from the upcoming album.
My initial reaction is about the same as my reaction to the other 2 - meh. Not really my thing. |
|
Not a fan of this band at all. Goofle played this in plug, and it just ruins the song man.
|
How can you diss TI? You are deader to me then usual.
