What are they like?
Every other Indie, Lo-Fi, Noise-Pop band that are floating around at the moment.
So, you should enjoy their debut "Nouns"

Even though it is just a fad, usually fads are much worse.
Girls debut album was definitely a top 10 album from that year, I hope they release a second soon.
They're definitely the best band out of the genre.
I wonder if Japandroids count? They're pretty great too.

I said that because you just described 99% of the music on the alternative station on Sirius Satellite Radio.
even worse is the fact that my mom only listens to that station, and when she does, she listens to it for hours on end.

Hmm yeah, I suppose but in my opinion there are still big differences between the bands. I like Girls album quite a lot but I wouldn't say it sounded like Best Coasts album, which I feel is more surf-rock-eque where as Girls, for me sounds more towards the traditional indie-rock side of the spectrum. They do have there similarities in some of the vocal stylings and lo-fidelity guitars, but there are noticeable and distinguishable differences, no?

And yes again Japandroids - Post Nothing album is very good for me, I would say they count. :)

Oh, I have no idea what Sirius Radio is. What kind of bands do they play?

Maybe that's why Best Coast's album is inferior and Girls' Album is a far better record. I think Girls' album will stand the test of time, their album has a bit of Elvis Costello, a bit of Beach Boys, a bit of Buddy Holly and a bit of Jesus & the Mary Chain in there. The influences were plain to see, and I think it will hold up as a decent album. I think Best Coast are probably one of the worst out of the lo-fi surf pop stuff that's coming out at the moment, but different folks for different folks I guess.

In that case - Japandroids, No Age and Girls FTW.

it's some satellite radio thing. Since my mom only listens to one station, I have no clue about the other channels. Apparently there's a Downtempo Electronica channel, but I haven't listened to it yet.

the stuff that the Alternative Channel plays is usually the stuff that either:
A: has been hyped to a god-like status by Pitchfork or
B: is the kind of music that is too boring to remember, because it ALL SOUNDS EXACTLY THE SAME.

Usually it's stuff like The Drums, Cage The Elephant and sometimes Tegan and Sara.

Oh right, I can feel your overwhelming love for Best Coast. Music is an art, it's subjective. I won't waste any time trying to convince you of Best Coast, but don't you think its not necessarily how well an album will stand the test of time that makes it a good record? But sometimes the influence an album can have on the music industry, however. An album that has good influences and is solid all round could be perceived as 'decent' by one person and 'boring' by another? I'm a fan, don't get me wrong... just food for thought

TheCunningStunt 10-23-2010 07:27 AM

I think if something stands the test of time, it makes for a good album - more so than say, something that was popular for a little while but become tiresome after a certain amount of time. Of course, albums that have an influence on the music industry are good albums (in theory, but then music is subjective as you say.) but them type of albums HAVE stood the test of time, because they've left a lasting impression.

Best Coast's Crazy for You was a decent enough listen, but it sounded quite generic and pretty typical. I certainly don't think it'll have too much of an impact.

The only band that fits that criteria is Animal Collective, and it's members. That's it.
