Few other bands, Deftones are k.

Motorhead aren't Metal. You don't appear to be much of a Metal fan, because The Melvins and RATM are more blend artists i'd say too.

Motorhead are clearly Heavy Metal, despite Lemmy's claims.

The Melvins are Metal although they incorporate other influences into their music.

I also like Slayer. \m/

(Did I do it right?)

Hehe, what Lemmy says is law.
The Melvins are like every genre ever, they're my fav Metal related band.

Lemmy is in denial, they're clearly Heavy Metal.
The Melvins are Metal. Probably Sludge metal with a bit of Stoner Rawk thrown in, but they do defy genre to an extent. They're called the "Godfathers of Grunge" as well.

AudioNutrition 10-23-2010 11:22 AM

CunningStunt, you should write a list of bands you like. I'm very curious, as you seem to be very sceptical. :)

Yeah as I said, they're everything. I love them.

Melvins and Mastodon are the only metal bands I really like. Deftones are awesome! And I was a total nu-metal kid between the ages of 10 and 13, yeah. LIMP BIZKIT FOREVER.

That's what i don't get! Those picks are hardly bands with nothing similiar, if you like them two you'd most likely like a lot of stuff.

Pavement for sure

Times New Viking!

I was into this scene about a year ago. I still really dig the likes of Eat Skull, Women, Psychedelic Horse**** and Dublin Duck Dispensary - although, unsurprisingly, my enthusiasm for bands such as Wavves, Best Coast and Dum Dum Girls has waned under the realisation that they essentially regurgitate the same **** constantly.

Perhaps the lowest of the lo-fi, I am absolutely hooked on How To Dress Well - Love Remains. An amazing lo-fi, stripped down indie-R&B sound. Also love the dark lo-fi sound of Perfume Genius.

Weirdo Rippers by No Age is probably the lowest of the lo-fi albums I've ever heard.

Yeh, but No Age is awesome. I saw them live, and oh man, my ears were bleeding. One of the most fun shows I've been to though.

Also, Wavves's King of the Beach is pretty good. I saw them with Best Coast. It was a pretty good show. For me, those two bands are just fun entertainment. Neither one (Best Coast in particular) feel like heavy hitters that will stick around on my playlists for too long. This is probably because of how shallow the lyrics they write are.

I must say though, the band that opened for them (No Joy) was pretty awesome. They lean more towards shoegaze than surfer noise-pop and I feel like they could actually grow into a pretty good band. We'll see.

Some good ones I've heard recently would include

Beach Fossils, Caddywhompus, Crystal Stilts, Double Dagger, Ganglians, Golden Triangle, Male Bonding, Reading Rainbow, Sic Alps, Surf City, Ty Segall, Vivian Girls, and Yuck, more in the noisy sound, but also enjoy Ducktails in the more experimental stuff...

but the greatest lo-fi band of all time is of course Mountain Goats.

The lowest is Times New Viking' debute. So trebly that it was pretty much unlistenable for me even though I have always been into lo-fi production...

I've seen Surfer Blood twice, both times boring as. There is some good stuff out there though, especially the likes of Women, Ganglians, Dublin Duck Dispensary, Ducktails, Beach Fossils, White Fence, Crystal Stilts, Art Museums and Spectre Folk. Woodsist and Siltbreeze are the places to go for good Lo-Fi pop these days.

Personally I adore the sound, it's like the soundtrack to a summers day in California.

If you haven't heard it already, you should definitely check out one of the bands I suggested. (Preferably Best Coast)

Who agrees? Who Disagrees? And Why!?

I love this sound, as I've always had a place in my heart for Surf music but dislike the multiman harmonies of groups like The Beach Boys. A really cool instrumental surf group is Monsters From Mars. They actually have more in common with hardcore punk than American indie.

I've kind of lost my love for the lo-fi sound, I'm still a fan of The Pains of Being Pure At Heart, How To Dress Well and No Age but last year I booked tickets to see Wavves in a few months and I'm not too interested in them anymore.

With Wavves, situation is the same as with many bands: in the beginning they don't know how to play, thus their music sounds like nothing else, but then they shake down with their instruments and produce more generic stuff, inspired by their favorite bands that everybody knows. Wavves' latest is still quite a decent album, but as a performer he barely does much, perhaps due to considering himself a rock star or something.
