Default Villagers

Quote:
Villagers are an Irish band fronted by Conor J. O'Brien. Their debut album Becoming a Jackal was released in 2010 and was shortlisted for that year's Mercury Prize. O'Brien is noted for his dark lyrics - "an eerie sense of disquiet", according to The Guardian.

Great album. What I really love about this release is how they use the piano. It's certainly an essential instrument, but its presence is very minimal and reserved for specific melodies and hooks that often repeat with some variation. The real focus is on the singer's voice, which is insanely emotional and enthralling to listen to. I'm eager to see where this band goes in the future.

(I couldn't find the album version of this song. The live version doesn't have piano, which is really important to the sound of the band IMO)

I tried their album and decided that I mainly liked 27 strangers and becoming a jackall.
And that's exactly one 7" single, which I've bought

Very cool! "Set The Tigers Free" is definitely my favorite track after listening the album through 3 times, but those ones are really good too

Becoming A Jackel is a really good album. I feel like i've under-listened to it though so i should really dig it out and listen to it a bit more. I've seen Conor's previous band The Immediate live and they were really good, worth checking out if you love Villagers.

I tried but nothing came up :-(

Also, I'm really jealous that you saw him live

And with another cup of tea in front of me I see things similarly.
(how cheesy).
I still mainly like those two songs. But I've tried

Very good album - should have won the Mercury in my opinion. There is an obvious Bright Eyes influence - which is no bad thing. The guy is amazing live.

Here's some cool songs

This one might as well be a Villagers song.

They used to swap around their instruments and share lead vocal duties and stuff. Conor would play either guitar or drums. They had a lot of potential and could have been big, but who knew that Conor would get that successful with Villagers.
