Muse is progressing to what they've been wanting to do all along. Exogenesis is the accumulation of all their work. They're only going to go more towards this direction.

It's a shame, because they sound ridiculous.

Eh, to each their own. Not everything was Arena Rock, "Unnatural Selection" could have easily been on "Absolution" or "Origin of Symmetry". It's a lot harder than most the songs on "The Resistance".

I'm still not sure what to think of Exogenesis. I quite enjoy classical pieces by Liszt, Beethoven, Mozart, etc etc etc, and I enjoy Rock/Prog, but I really find nothing special about Exogenesis.

Hate to say it, but I think the best song on the Resistance is Uprising.

But it could be just something that he thought he created and created it. Like that Malcolm in the Middle episode where Malcolm recreated the Meow Mix song on guitar. Even I have recreated "Let it Be" with the same chords and melody in a different key. Luckily my friend pointed it out, haha.
Naah, it wasn't done on accident, Matt has cited Rachmaninoff as an influence many times before. But I think there comes a point to where you're no longer just influenced by an artist but just stealing stuff from them.

For me the best songs were the Exogenesis songs and Undisclosed Desires, I think they really branched out of their normal element with the latter track and I find that in itself somewhat admirable. On the other songs they're pretty much just boring stadium rock songs.

Alright, yeah. If he's actually cited being influenced, it may just be stealing his work. Now there's a chance I might create something very similar just because it's in the back of my head, and since it's so obscure, nobody would call me on it. But Bellamy's said he's influenced by him, so he listens to him a lot. So if it were an accident he would have caught it by now.

Oh c'mon, you can't really "steal" from famous classical composers, unless you outright reproduce their work in its entirety and call it your own.

Well what if Tenacious D said they wrote "Classico" in it's entirety. That wouldn't be stealing somewhat?

I agree that The Resistance is quite disappointing for their standards. I had the other few albums, and decided to get this one, but the older ones are far better. In my opinion their best is Origin of Symmetry, I just love the style.

Well, in the end, you can't expect a band to "get it right" in every album... And loads of bands have changed/are changing their styles too... Unfortunately.
