I've only heard "Take Me Out" which I enjoyed.

I'm quite the Ferdy fan it has to be said, and i think they've always deserved a bit of hype even with hindsight.
And jesus there's nothing wrong with the 2nd album, in fact for quite a while i thought it was better than the first (not sure about that now though). Don't see why it gets so much bad press. It's those same dancey songs but with a harder edge, what's not to like? New album soon, yays. |
Franz Ferdinand has always been the band I thought I'd never like, but I was pleasantly surprised when I listened to their first album (long ago!). But I still haven't got around to listening to their second album yet.
|
They are not a rock band, they are pop.

I really like the new single.
Lucid Dreams Thoughts? |
Classic Franz but with more bleepy sounds. I haven't really heard it a lot though because the copy of it i've got someones recorded off the radio or something and their MSN goes off :s
|
I'm actually starting to like the second album.
|
Is anyone going to see them at electric picnic in Ireland?? I wish i was!
|
I wish they would come to America most of these bands from the UK just tour the UK and Europe and Australia .
|
So I got the new album yesterday and sounds like much of what they been doing in the past with some dabs of electronia. The album is pretty stale for me I cant pick out a fav track. I might give it another listen though.
|
Well, like I said in the album thread, I don't think it's as good as their previous albums, but it's still very good and fun to listen to. I like all the songs except for the last two. It goes to their credit that they've managed to keep my attention for 3 albums, unlike their contemporaries The killers and Bloc Party. And The Rakes...:\

I've always been willing to forgive Franz Ferdinand for their generic unoriginal dance-rock because they are:
a) first and foremost a pop group by their own admission b) at least tried to be cool by appearing on the Fall documentary and generally bigging up brilliant Scottish post-punk of the 80's, so they listen to good music at least c) last week's appearance on 'the Culture Show', which went in-depth into the making of their last album. It sounds horrible (jumping on the electro-revival bandwagon much?) but they seem like a nice intelligent bunch. Plus none of them are ugly :D |

meh, they just sound like an amalgam of the (much-exploited during the music press' 'post-punk revival') Gang of Four sound and Orange Juice/Fire Engines (Postcard Records bands in general) to me... although this isn't a bad thing as I said but they just seem like an inferior rehash of those bands, who also had an ear for tunes and hooks.
But you can't go around just disliking bands for sounding like other ones (that's the foundation of music 99% of the time right?) so I'll just say I find them personally a bit annoying. The synchronized stepping moves being one reason :D |
I've never heard anything remotely as good, catchy or danceable by Gang of four, so I really don't understand the comparison. They had a beat too, that's about as far as that parallel goes.

As for the pop angle, this is what I was saying I preferred (I am aware of the fact that guitar-pop goes in cycles because everything has already been done with the medium). All Scottish bands aswell :D YouTube - orange juice - rip it up edit: this is weird i feel like i'm having a discussion with James Franco... please be kind :p |
You really think either of those songs is as good as anything Franz has done? Maybe I'm just not a fan of trash, in film or in music, but I just don't see it...I like my glossy production. :\
Incidentally, are you some kind of homosexual dear fellow? You are a fellow aren't you? Edit: Also, I think there's a rather substantial difference between dance punk or post punk (which I think GoF would fall under) and dance rock, the latter being much poppier/less dissonant (who said rock can't be catchy?). I think a worthier parallel (with GoF) would have been to Bloc party or Young knives (at least their first albums). |

And I'd rather not go into details here but yes i am a gentleman. However my gender is up for grabs if you put 'New York Dolls' on :p: edit: re your edit - good point, I think Orange Juice fit dance punk bill tho!? :( |
Well dear fellow, you should really get a hold of an album or two, they are quite smashing.
|
Yeah, didn't like the remixes of Tonight, at all. Kinda annoying in fact...

So I'm faced with a dilemma. Franz Ferdinand are coming to Texas which they very rarely do and I'd love to see them but they is a catch they're opening for Green Day. How could a band like Franz Ferdinand that has headlined the Bonnaroo festival and played at Glastonbury be an opening act for a mediocre band like Green Day? A group of faux punk rockers, men in their late 30's that still wear eyeliner. And for any of you willing to protest me calling them faux punk I told my mother about wanting to see Franz Ferdinand but how I didn't want to watch Green Day to which she replied "what's wrong with Green Day I like them?" yes she apparently likes Green Day, for me that takes away all their creditability as a punk band. But anyway I really want to see Franz Ferdinand (I thought Tonight was pretty good but neither it or it's predecessor come close to the greatness of their debut album) but I don't wanna pay $100 to see them play for 30 mins and there is no way I'd stick around for Green Day. I can understand a band like Franz Ferdinand having trouble filling a 12000 seat arena in a state like Texas but there are much better bands to open for, also I'm sure smaller venues would welcome you with open arms. Franz, You Could Have Had It So Much Better :(
|
A 100 fucking dollars? Da-ha-yum...
Anyhoo, if I had the money, I'd go see both. Franz are fantastic live (although I think I may be a slightly bigger fan than you) and have improved immensely over the last few years. They'll have an excellent sound system supporting Green Day. Plus, I'm not really sure why you have such a major problem with GD, they're just a rock band, and they're likely to put on a good show...:\ |
Well GD probably will put on a good performance, but how could I really enjoy it if I'm not a fan of the music?
|
Like, at all? I mean, I'm not a major fan either but they have some fun tunes...:\
Dunno dude, you're in a pickle. I had a similar situation a few years back when The Bravery was opening for Depeche mode (whom I don't like). I passed on it, but mostly because I'd already seen The Bravery in Bologna...they're not nearly as good as FF though..:\ |
take me out is the only song i really know, i should start looking into more than just the most popular song. im terrible for it :O

FF Presentation at VMB (it saved the night, really).

My last.fm station played this remix of Franz Ferdinand's 'The Fallen' and I have been listening to it nonstop today:
|
neither here nor there.

this is probably the only band I dislike almost as much as I dislike Tokio Hotel

I absolutely love the Tonight: Franz Ferdinand album. The title track, Ulysses opens the album pretty damn well, then the rest of the album goes along very smoothly. The self titled Franz Ferdinand still remains to be my favorite, but this one definitely packs a punch.

I honestly don't know that many, but No you girls and Take me out are top tunes!
|
Take Me Out, Michael, and The Fallen are amazing. I used to absolutely love Ulysses, but I listened to it too much and got over it.
I think their debut was their best, and they got less interesting from that point. Franz Ferdinand: Live was fairly mediocre in my opinion. I guess it was kinda sterile and too pop-y. |
Song from upcoming album!
|
Another single.
