sleepy jack 04-04-2005 08:47 PM

Its actually Franz Ferdinand

Ensemble 04-04-2005 08:51 PM

Woops!

Sneer 04-05-2005 06:15 AM

did like them. got the album. but they bore me now to be honest.

Trauma 04-05-2005 04:20 PM

They're the next genre of boy bands as Urban said with his very convincing argument, although he might not have said FRRRRanz specifically. I did like "Take Me Out" though, but that's it.

Pimp_racer 04-05-2005 05:25 PM

i despise them. there horrible.

I`m no fan but c`mon , Matinee is a class tune

Urban Hat€monger ? 04-05-2005 05:36 PM

so is this what we`ve got to look forward to from now on. You just picking any band at random & just saying ...

I love them!
I don't like them.
I'm not sure.
Who are they?

It's an easy system. I pick the bands that I like.

gongadin 04-07-2005 01:31 PM

franz ferdinand are a new type of pop that tries to be rock, but fails very miserably, i hate them but not as much as mcfly or anything like that

Emmie Rose 04-07-2005 02:37 PM

Franz Ferdinand dont try to be rock. Other people call them rock but they keep saying they're pop. They completely rock my socks. Gets my vote.

Sneer 04-07-2005 02:42 PM

ive seen them be referred to as art-pop. thats probably the most reasonable description. i always thought guitar-pop was reasonable too.

Kerrang! had to say art-rockers when they won 'Best British Rock Act' God damned Alex was surprised...

Sneer 04-07-2005 02:47 PM

seems their too mainstream to be considered as rock now

You call them a boy band, but then you admit to liking the most overplayed song of 2004......

Trauma 04-07-2005 06:02 PM

that has nothing to do with anything Soundgardener..... are you restricting me from liking the songs boy bands make??? come on.

Urban Hat€monger ? 04-07-2005 06:10 PM

Franz Ferdinand could be a cheesy euro pop band for all I care. Matinee is still great

yeah your sooooo right all of the bands coming out of europe should be called boy bands because they have a crappy song on mtv for the whole year... I guess we can certify these as boy bands: Kaiser Chiefs, and the Bravery... what a genius

Fails miserablly? And there was a time, youngin, where rock and pop were the same damn thing. And you could say the same thing for dance. Know your history. And frankly, I think alot of ST rocked. So I don't know that failed very miserablly is an accurate depiction. Jack Johnson fails miserably at rocking (that is no critique on his music) because hes too sedate. But I think FF has enough energy to rock much better than miserably.

Well if you're listing those two you might as well put The Killers in there as well.

bravery are american. i dont think theres anything wrong with having pop elements to be honest. people forget that pop isnt all about Nsync or britney spears. its POPular music. if a rock band is popular enough to be labelled as pop than good on them. it doesnt mean they've sold out at all most of the time.

I was actually being sarcastic, and defending the fact that they aren't a boy band... How you can take bands like GC, and Simple Plan, which are actually boy bands with instruments and put them in the same category as bands like Franz Ferdinand, and any other up and coming euro bands is very mindboggling to me. The lyrical content has to have such a low level of meaning and importance to be condsidered a boy band in my eyes. I dont think there is anything wrong with pop elements in bands either.

They're simply a new breed of boy bands. They're all very similar, just because they dress cooler than the boy bands of yore shouldn't really disguise that. Most proper indie bands couldn't care less what they look like anyway.

ok then. I don't really care though... :)

spearmint 04-10-2005 02:19 PM

I wouldn't go so far as to say I love them...Nor would I say I dislike them...I'm sure that I think they're alright so it's not like I'm "not sure" and I know who the are...So I'm not voting

Why shouldn`t they be , most of their influences are early 80s pop bands like Echo & The Bunnymen , Ultravox ,Teardrop Explodes, Japan & The Human League.

Why shouldn`t they call themselves pop?

Sweet Jane 04-11-2005 04:24 PM

Pop seems to have a derogatory meaning to most people, it's bizarre, seeing as most of the music they like is.

Sneer 04-12-2005 02:34 AM

exactly. theres nothing wrong with being popular.

id say franz are alternative

tinker bell 04-13-2005 07:16 AM

I agree

Sneer 04-13-2005 01:29 PM

id say their the opposite of alternative, pop.

Tommyrocker 04-13-2005 01:53 PM

i'd say they're alterna-pop <-----lets face it, at some point this genre is gunna somehow exist.

Sneer 04-13-2005 03:12 PM

despite the fact its a contradiction!

I picked "who are they?" simply because these poll options are slightly retarded...

I dont think they ever claimed to be "rock" in the first place. It's pretty evident what they aim for, which is catchy radio friendly pop music.

Anyways, I dont dislike them nor do I think theyre horrible, theyre simply forgettable. Although, their self titled had some pretty good songs on it... specifically the first 4 tracks, it's all down hill after "Matinee".

jackhammer 07-21-2008 02:34 PM

I still have'nt heard their second album. Their debut did nothing for me when it came out but now all the hype has died down I am finding myself popping this on at work a little more. 'Take Me Out' is of course a great track but 'The Dark Of The Matinee' and 'Michael' are damn good too. It seems to have dated less and have more longevity than a lot of white boy guitar bands from Britain in the last few years.
