In my opinion, it doesn't matter what genre she is into, just that it is not that top 40 nonsense. That in itself proves that she doesn't have to be told what to like, but that she can find joy in the music that truly pleases her. She doesn't have to like the same type of music as me, just so long as it is not strictly main stream!

I think that music is such a key component of my life that I would find I had little to share with someone who couldn't appreciate it as I do. There are few avenues of my life I am truly passionate about, and I can't imagine what kind of foundation a companionship would have if it lacked such an important aspect of my daily life.

If by that you mean "It doesn't matter what genre she likes, as long as she is genuinely interested in good music". I'd have to say you're right.
Problem is, I couldn't live with someone who's into trance or R&B or something like that. Just because I cannot stand it. But I do see your point

I would highly recommend...breaking up! You would be amazed what a huge divide that can become if your relationship continues. Speaking from experience.

One of you will have to give in...and unless you can imagine liking Britney Spears, I would recommend getting out while it's still easy.

Who cares if she's not into Indie Rock, it sucks.

Now if she hates Prog, you got a problem.

You'll be the only prog fan with a girlfriend and thus become a social outcast from all your proggy friends.

Every prog fan has a super hot girlfriend man, you are crazy, good joke.

Prog is known worldwide to be an afrodesiac.

Flaming?

I'm doing a serious scientific research here on the correlation between Yes concept albums & panty moistening.
