In deciding to do a Libs lyrical quote, the only thing mildly appropriate and worth taking out of context are the words to a song off of...yes, Up The Bracket.

I think that just about sums up the worthlessness of the second album.

Maybe if you didn't post about 20 times saying that people might lay off.

Or if you backed up and explained your opinions instead of repeating the same statement with different words 20 times.

Alright evryone gang up on me. I like the Libertines because the lyrics are brillant and the album signals the end of a wonderful band and music partnership of Pete Doherty and Carl Barat.
Can't Stand Me now

Carls sings:
An ending fitting for the start
you twist and tore our love apart
your light fingers through the dark
that shattered the lamp and into the darkness cast us...
Pete sings:
No you've got it the wrong way round
you shut me up and blamed it on the brown
cornered the boy kicked out at the world...the world kicked back
alot ****in' harder now

If you wanna try, If you wanna try
there's no worse you could do (oh oh oh)
I know you lie (I know you lie)
I'm still in love with you (oh oh oh)

Can't take me anywhere (Cant take you anywhere)
Can't take me anywhere (wouldn't take you anyway)

Carl sings:
I'll take you anywhere you wanna go

but YOU CAN'T STAND ME NOW YOU CAN'T STAND ME NOW CAN'T STAND ME NOW
CAN'T STAND ME NOW

But enough of making fun of my album preference, can some one tell what kind of guitar pete is playing here

Answer: he isn't. He's just moving his fingers up and down one.

Up the bracket has all the charm and all the energy. It is the aural representation of what they were all about in their heyday, epitomised by their name. The second is a lot more musically sophisticated i think. Theres almost a jazz feel to it at times. However, i cant help but feel the second is only as lauded as it is due to the timing of its release and the internal conflicts within the band at the time, conflicts that, although prsent during the recording of UTB, really came to public attention with the self titled. One thing both albums have in common is the high level of lyrical content, but i think all in all UTB is better purely because its how i want to remember the Libertines.
