Pete and Carl were kinda good together in that they could combine ideas and play into each other. It seems obvious that Carl was more responsible for the musical side of the Libs, and Pete probably the lyrics. Which shows in their solo careers: Dirty Pretty Things has music that's not far off the Libs in terms of basic sound (though is still complete crap) and terrible lyrics, and the Babyshambles, well, what can we say about Babyshambles? Sigh.
Pete would only be any good as the lyricist alongside a person who's at least a bit of a songsmith. As for Carl, I don't think he'll ever do anything good again. Alex Turner of the Arctics has more talent than both of them combined in one fingernail. |

My argument: Turner has written more good songs alone over the course of two albums and an EP than there are on all the Libertines LPs and EPs. Not by a great margin, by a small margin - but CRUCIALLY, he did it alone. No collabs... except on maximally one or two tracks.
