What criteria would you use to say that though? Personally I think rock legends are big innovators.

Youre right but he made a big mark on the music scene and brought back a style of music that was pretty dead among the mainstream. He had kids listening to some real roots inspired music. He had kids listening to Robert Johnson and son house songs, whether they knew it or not. Kids that probably had never even heard of those names. He took those old songs and put some life In them. I think his guitar tone is pretty unique and stands out, especially among mainstream guitarists of his era. The white stripes music is pretty unique and different for it's time. He's a rock legend and icon in my book.

Ah that makes sense especially if you could appreciate a lot of the music he helped give exposure too. To tell you the truth though I can't really see rock and roll legends being too relevant any more though. That is largely due to the fact that my criteria for being a legend is innovation and innovation in such an overpopulated genre is extremely sparse.

I hear ya. "legend" might be a bit of an overstatement. Icon fits a little better. Nonetheless, he's great in my book. I love how bands like the black keys and the white stripes have been and still are exposing a younger audience to some old roots music. I doubt many younger black keys fans had ever heard of junior kimbrough before they came out with the "chulahoma" album.

Yeah thats exactly how I feel towards Jack White. Anything that encourages diversity is good.

I just cant stomach the White Stripes. His juvenile riffs, his grainy voice, and the worst rock n roll drummer that ever existed.

blastingas10 01-27-2012 12:33 PM

Well it's just not your style. His riffs are great, some of the best rock riffs of the last 15 years. I love his voice. Meg Isn't technically good but her drumming style combine with jacks choppy riffing goes really well together. They're a great fit

I enjoy listening to stuff by Jack White. Not as much a fan of The White Stripes as I am of The Raconteurs.

All of the things that some people will hate about his projects are probably the same things that make me enjoy them. Technically speaking a lot of his work is kind of bad, but I like it that way.

I'm very grateful for people who aren't fully absorbed in the technical side of music.

I love most of his work but what has been up with him recently? Recording with ICP, letting an X Factor star cover his song........I worry for him.
