We are Young

If you haven't heard this in some commercial somewhere you might not own a television. Was rated as song of the year by some outfit (2011).

Some Nights

They said this was Graceland/Power (Simon/West) mashup and I can hear that, but I still hear Queen and Kansas in here too.

I found out about this band after their little burst of popularity and after listening to both of their albums they are definitely worth checking out. And this is a pop band! Me actually liking a pop band does not happen every day.

Nobody has mentioned their first album yet, 'Aim and Ignite'. It is much more consistent then 'Some Nights'. With the second album I felt that it had tracks that surpassed anything on 'Aim and Ignite' ('Some Nights (Intro),' 'Some Nights', 'One Foot'). But then the rest of the album has that 'this album should be 6 tracks shorter' feel.

tl:dr listen to the first album as well. This is a good pop band.

All I've heard is 'We Are Young' and I really hate that song for some reason, despite being a Janelle Monae fan. It is catchy though.

I can never hear her in that song anyway.

We Are Young is their worst track.

I still think Some Nights has a more bombastic sound, but Aim & Ignite is definitely more consistant. That said, I listen to Some Nights a lot more.

I listened to Some Nights nonstop when I got it, for like a week, but I still like Aim & Ignite much more as an album. Of course, with most artists they've gotta get poppier as they progress, but I like Aim & Ignite specifically because of its emphasis on strings/a more classical sound. Also, the beat is less constant, which gave them more freedom to mess around/experiment a bit more, specifically in a song like Be Calm:

Some Nights is an awesome album, but the autotune in Stars kills that song for me, even though parts of it are so great. I'm really excited to see what they do next. I'm seeing them next month actually, I've heard they're great live!

I have the exact same problem, it's like they shoved her in there for namesake.

After reading this I just sampled Fun and I'm going to get Some Nights. Thank you -- was thinking "one hit wonder" but I was obviously quite wrong!
