I prefer any other Wilco album to A Ghost Is Born. I wasn't feeling that record.

Yankee Foxtrot Hotel would have made my top 10 albums of the past decade. But I just love the lyrics and more chill vibe of Ghost compared to Foxtrot.

Well, the more I think about it Foxtrot was chill too, just in a different way. I need to listen to the other Wilco albums.

Radiohead - Kid A
Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
Bjork - Vespertine
Interpol - Turn on the Bright Lights
The Strokes - Is This It

I guess you could consider it to be a pretty standard list. At first I was considering whether Bjork fit in this genre, but I can't really think of anything else she would be.

No one ever gives Pete credit for this album, I actually enjoy it

wesfoster 01-08-2013 11:13 AM

I think its really well put together, and some of his lyrics are incredible. Plus Graham Coxon plays guitar on it ;) . it's got nothing on his unreleased stuff though.

sidewinder 01-08-2013 11:18 AM

2002-2012, then. I tried to stay true to the "indie rock" sound and ignore any potential favorites that were too punk or hardcore (Dillinger Four, On the Might of Princes), too "alternative" (Radiohead, The Mars Volta), or too pop/electronic (The Knife, Yeasayer, Animal Collective). Sticking to 5 is proving quite difficult...so I'm cheating with 10 (and that's hard too).

WHY? - Alopecia
The Shins - Wincing the Night Away
...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead - Source Tags & Codes
Chad VanGaalen - Soft Airplane
Alamo Race Track - Black Cat John Brown
Pinback - Autumn of the Seraphs
Minus the Bear - Highly Refined Pirates
Grizzly Bear - Veckatimest
Deerhunter - Halcyon Digest
Honey for Petzi - General Thoughts and Tastes

ViciousVixsyn 01-09-2013 09:14 PM

5. Crystal Castles (III) - just came out. Bliss.
4. Imaad Wasif - The Voidist - some of the most well-rounded pieces of music from this songwriter
3. Tobacco - Maniac Meat - gets funky. gets my synth on quite nicely
2. Mew - No more stories, are told today... - wow. just, wow.
1. Arcade Fire - Neon Bible - still the most genius and beautiful body of music to come from this very relevant band.

Goofle 01-10-2013 11:20 AM

Hop Along - Get Disowned
Why? - Alopecia
Deerhoof - Apple O'
Arcade Fire - Neon Bible
Bloc Party - Silent Alarm

I have listened to many more highly regarded albums, that maybe would make the list had I been listening to them for years, but that album is one that has stayed with me through the years. So many other popular bands have been retrospectively dismissed as below average, but not Bloc Party.

Their quality has decreased after Silent Alarm though.

Goofle 01-12-2013 06:32 PM

Yeah, probably should have stated that I was just talking about this specific album. Their second and their weren't all that bad though.

tonyttt31 01-17-2013 03:31 PM

1 Bloc Party - Silent Alarm
2 Joanna Newsom - Ys
3 Blur - Think Tank
4 Antony and the Johnsons - I Am a Bird Now
5 Bloc Party - Intimacy

joy_circumcision 01-19-2013 02:52 PM

2003-now? limit one per artist, and looking just at indie rock (so no Animal Collective, Joanna Newsom coming in by association)

1. The Microphones - The Glow Pt. 2
2. Arcade Fure - Funeral
3. The Fiery Furnaces - Gallowsbird's Park
4. Titus Andronicus - The Monitor
5. Pinback - Offcell

Looking through RYM, I'm noticing that my preference for indie rock albums drops off dramatically after the mid-nineties. Also, there was a strangely large number of decently rated 2002 indie rock albums that I couldn't include due to timeframe, including: You Forgot It in People, Turn On the Bright Lights, and Songs About Leaving.

klipers 01-20-2013 05:40 AM

The National - Alligator - City Middle
Tame Impala - Lonerism - Why won´t they talk to me
Arcade Fire - The Suburbs - Suburban War
Pyrrhura - Always on my way - Memories
The woods - Woods Family Creeps - Creeps Collage

WhatYourSoulSings 01-21-2013 02:09 PM

Arctic Monkeys- Whatever people Say I Am, That's What I'm Not
They are from near me, and seeing them live in a tiny venue was one of the most electrifying, exciting musical experiences I have ever had. They are the band that got me into modern music. I adore everything about this album, the lyrical trickery that reminds me so much of my own thoughts, the meticulous, relentless drums, the crashing guitar and the brash dissent of youthful northerners.
Art Brut- Bang Bang Rock And Roll
Portugal. The Man- The Satanic Satanist
The White Stripes- Elephant
Alabama Shakes- Boys & Girls

That'll do for now.

PeopleAreReal 01-21-2013 02:25 PM

Arcade Fire- Neon Bible
Best Coast- The Only Place
Beach House- Bloom
Grizzly Bear- Yellow House
The Arctic Monkey's- Favorite Worst Nightmare

I thought the others were pretty average. Not great, not horrible, a few good tracks here and there. Silent Alarm is still the best, though.
