I don't think they sound a LOT like them. In fact, I'd say they sound little to nothing like them, GoF was dance punk, post punk whatever, Franz is Dance rock. They have actual melodies and shit and nothing to do with politics... If you're gonna accuse anyone of plagiarizing, Bloc Party is a lot closer to their sound.

First time I heard 'This Fire' I instantly thought of Gang of Four.

Damn i like The Futurehead's first album but you can tell it wouldn't exist if it weren't for Entertainment! and Pink Flag.

Franz and Bloc Party are the only halfway decent "mainstream indie" bands in the UK just now, in my opinion. The Futureheads first album was good as well but I don't know, are they mainstream?

Entertainment rules but Solid Gold is my favourite Gang of Four album...classic.

Not really, they were on the brink with Hounds Of Love but the last 2 albums have let them down.

So you think Bloc Party's latest album was good? oh wait, "halfway decent".

i don't know, i haven't heard it. i like the single though. it'll still be better than most British indie ****e in the charts.

i don't listen to Bloc Party, so i won't hear the album unless in extraordinary circumstances, but i do think they're an alright band and they aren't completely derivative. i have better things to listen to rather than waste my time with Bloc Party though.

but yes, "halfway decent". Well read!

Entertainment is by far, their most consistent and best record, perhaps the best late 70's punk record to emerge from the UK. During the following three years, they changed dramatically, eventually becoming an embarrasingly bad funk band which embraced many of the values disdained on the debut. "Songs of the Free" is a very solid new wave record, but if your new to the gang, I'd strongly recommend the compilation " A Brief History of the 20th Century" which pulls all their great tunes which were dispersed over several albums and EPs after the monumental Entertainment.
