What do you listen to when you are high?

It's friday afternoon the working week is behind you and you are ready chill on the couch with the psychoactive of your choice. What is your favourite sound track to an altered state of conscious ?

Black Francis 05-09-2014 03:03 PM

Any pixies album (especially Bossanova)

Hissing Fauna by of Montreal
And maybe some deerhoof

Carpe Mortem 05-09-2014 03:20 PM

Some excellent feel-good stoner songs.... Generally my tastes in that mindset revolve around psychadelic rock, stoner rock, or progressive/ artistic music. Nothing fast, that's for damn sure.
Spoiler for Youtube Vids:

Although... that's just if I'm sitting around at home. If I'm out and about getting high and engaged in some sort of physical activity, it's chill but a lot filthier and biker-inspired.

GravitySlips 05-09-2014 03:57 PM

Silver Apples

They're perfect when you're high.

hate paper doll 05-09-2014 05:14 PM

It varies honestly. Lately it's been Thee Oh Sees, 13th Floor Elevators, Fuzz, and the Vaselines.

Silver Apples is a good choice too, as is Pixies - I like Trompe Le Monde the best though.

Frownland 05-09-2014 05:44 PM

I just generally listen to the same stuff as I do when I'm sober, but I like to listen to Madvillain, Gonjasufi, Eric Dolphy, and United States of America when I'm kicking back.

Sansa Stark 05-09-2014 05:50 PM

**** yeah Silver Apples

I listen to a lot of MIA high but I'm pretty much never sober so

Scarlett O'Hara 05-09-2014 06:47 PM

When I'm high I listen to trance music on windows media player because it has those trippy spiral things as the song plays. I feel soooo damn good during it.

Someday 05-16-2014 02:47 PM

-The Brian Jonestown Massacre (especially "Anenome" which is perfect at anytime)
-The Black Angels
-Jimmy Hendrix
-Yeah Yeah Yeahs
...and more but i havn't every bands in mind right now :usehead:

Goofle 05-16-2014 02:51 PM

When I used to get high I listened to Alice in Chains. Was my mates favourite band and he bought the weed so what can you do?

(I do like AIC, but come on man, every day?)

anticipation 05-16-2014 11:56 PM

he lock hisself up and put the beat on repeat.

Black Francis 05-17-2014 12:06 PM

Im high right now and im listening to this

Brings back memories of dying over and over again

Justthefacts 05-22-2014 09:41 PM

When I first started getting really blazed, I'd smoke out of my ghetto water bottle before school and every morning turn on Paranoid Android. The electric guitar would blow my mind every single time.

ThePhanastasio 05-22-2014 11:17 PM

One time, I was on uppers, and my friends and I listened to Allison Krauss singing "Down To the River To Pray" on constant loop for hours. Repeated later on a weird LSD trip.

And there was the night of two songs: Idioteque by Radiohed and Falling Man by Blonde Redhead.

butthead aka 216 05-23-2014 12:00 AM

When I used to smoke it was notorious thugs by bone thugz n biggie..... my god it just hits so hard

hate paper doll 05-23-2014 01:12 AM

Right now, Stereolab.

Before that:

Black Francis 05-23-2014 10:35 AM

Im sober now but yesterday i was high all day listening to Django and it was great! Best guitarist ive ever heard.

Janszoon 05-23-2014 11:15 PM

When I used to smoke a lot, this was some of my go-to shit.

Still one of my favorite albums.

The Batlord 06-03-2014 11:39 AM

I wasn't a regular smoker long enough to really have any goto albums, but I generally just liked to experiment with different music just to see what would happen. No matter how paranoid and moody I could get on weed, music was only ever a good experience. Even death metal was brilliant. It became just a force of pure aggression and darkness that was all consuming. Yet somehow no bad vibes. The only exception was when I tried listening to Dissection. Almost instant suicidal thoughts. Never tried black metal when I was high ever again.

I'd definitely like to go back and listen to Baroness again though. Was amazing.

Loomer29 06-23-2014 03:46 AM

Massive Attack, The Horrors and Tame Imapla are usually the soundtrack to my "altered states"

Surell 06-25-2014 07:29 PM

I haven't done it yet but next time I smoke I wanna put on Paul's Boutique. I really like MPP by Animal Collective too, very laid back and pretty with lots of sounds to tickle your fancy.

hate paper doll 06-25-2014 08:05 PM

I just listened to Paul's Boutique today! Sober that is, but still. It's so good.

Surell 06-29-2014 02:03 PM

Oh god yes. "Hey ladies" is practically an upper by itself

wakemeup 07-10-2014 03:55 PM

Silver Apples... and Iron Butterfly. But I guess it depends on my mood. Sometimes I'll listen to metal.

If you want to do it properly you should get blazed and watch ODDSAC

Whoa! Now I gotta do it, such a good idea, I'll make it my first viewing too.

kimayahua 07-23-2014 10:45 AM

Really like to listen to The Frantiks - Can you feel it?

darkhorse91 07-24-2014 04:48 PM

Thanks man. They make some really good music to cheese out to, as well as the others. Monkey3 and Mars Red Sky are probably my modern favs. Just something about getting high and listening to the slow distorted guitars is just relaxing. Even when drinking.

Edit: love the avatar! Kick ass!

Fa sho man. I'll have to give Mars Red Sky a listen, stoner rock and metal is definitely my ****. Recently got into Woodwall and Large Marge too, not sure if you're familiar but definitely look into them.
We have another member here who's pretty knowledgeable on that kind of music, jackhammer. Keep an eye out for what he's listening to.

And thanks!

I will be sure to check those bands out! Haven't heard of them but I'm always looking for new bands. Also will be keeping an eye on Jackhammers taste as well. I just love music brother! Especially music I can smoke and drink to.

Thats whats up

Frownland 08-02-2014 11:00 AM

The new OOIOO album really grew on me when I listened to it at two AM very faded like.

Hibiki Itano 08-06-2014 08:06 PM

"The Age of the Understatement" by The Last Shadow Puppets is a good choice (for me).

drummerboy95 08-13-2014 04:02 PM

American Football is good, so is cap'n jazz and into it, over it

Swordfishtrombone 08-14-2014 02:33 PM

All of it. I have a very, very short attention span, and when I'm coming down, I randomly cycle through songs based on random whims enjoying each one like...a thousand times than I would normally.

But more specifically, I have different kinds of music I listen to when I'm in that state doing different things. If I'm writing, for instance, I put on cool jazz and bebop. If I'm cooking, I like some soft swing music. If I'm playing video games, I like noisy electronic and bombastic hip hop. I'll get into a zone doing what I do with to that music.
