:mad:You bastards!!!! I'm seriously pissed here! With one fell swift you just rubbed out my two favourite bands.

I honestly thought The Smiths would go right to the end to challenge the Cure, but all my favourites are gone now, Smiths, Femmes, Pogues, Bauhuas, anyways I'll be backing the unconventional band on the list now.

Final tally:

Violent Femmes 5, The Smiths 4, Pixies 3, Joy Division 3, Ministry 3, The Cramps 3, Public Image 2, Gang of Four 2, Skinny Puppy 1, Killing Joke, 1

Doesn't Add up for the Violent Femmes, they're out and Morrissey is no longer a Charming Man so say goodbye to the Smiths

Preliminary: The Cult, The Pogues, Cocteau Twins, Birthday Party, Dead Can Dance, Chameleons

20. Dead Milkman, 19, Mission of Burma 18, Echo & the Bunnymen, 17, Jesus & Mary Chain, 16. Sisters of Mercy, 15, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds 14. Sonic Youth, 13. Bauhaus 12. Violent Femmes, 11. The Smiths

1. The Cure
2. The Cramps
3. Gang of Four
4. Joy Division
5. Killing Joke
6. Ministry
7. Pixies
8. Public Image
9. Siouxie and the Banshees
10. Skinny Puppy

Final 10, vote 4 off, polls close Friday night pacific time provided there at least 5 votes, and please be respectful of people's votes

Gang of Four
Pixies
Joy Division
Ministry

Yeah, I'm bummed to see The Smiths voted off too. Anyways:

The Cramps
Killing Joke
Gang Of Four
Ministry

This hurts a little. I'm voting off hometown heroes here (Pixies) among other bands I like.

The Cramps
Gang of Four
Joy Division
Pixies

i'm just curious....how are the rest of you picking your votes?

at this point....well really from the beginning....i really like all of these band...a lot

but i'm at a point of not just thinking of the influence they had on me when i was younger.....most of these bands i really got into in the early 90s when i was a teenager

but also how much they are still a part of my daily life....and many of these bands are....so I love the Smiths...but i can't honestly think of the last time i sat down and listened to an entire album beginning to end

and i think Gang of Four's Entertainment is seriously one of the best albums ever made.....but i'm not into the rest of their discography...although i did put on Solid Gold the other day and really liked it

but i still listen to The Cramps almost daily

etc etc etc

At this point I'm pretty much voting on how consistently good bands have been. Like you, I love Entertainment! but am pretty meh about the rest of Gang of Four's output. With Joy Division, I love Unknown Pleasures and a lot of the stuff collected on Substance but have never really liked Closer very much. With Pixies, I love Doolittle but find the rest of their albums to be a mix of stuff that I like and stuff I don't. The Cramps are a little different case. I think I like them more in theory than in practice in the sense that I do like them but I almost never sit around and listen to them.

I've been voting since the beginning, based on how much time and money I've spent on each band since I first heard them from the late 70's/early 80's and onward. All of those bands make up a respectable slice of my record/CD/VHS & concert T-shirt collection and I saw most of them perform live. I don't spend much time listening to any of them these days, but I do still occasionally dip into my collection when I'm in the mood and they all get a bit of time on my turntable or CD player or VCR every once in a while.

I think I'm on the same page as bob. and Janszoon -- considering not just how much I personally like a band but how influential I feel they are too. For example, I don't hate Killing Joke or Gang Of Four but I definitely don't see them ranking above bands like The Cure or The Pixies if you were to pose this question to the general public.
