One of my favorite things to do with REM lately though, is "Star Me Kitten" with William S. Burroughs, hearing William say "f*ck me kitten, you are wild!" just brings a smile to my face.

With the exceptions of Murmur and Automatic for the People, I've never been a big fan. I'd take Husker Du, Pixies and The Replacements over them any day in terms of the whole College Rock thing.

That said, I do respect them for the way they've gone about doing things in their career.

Same here. I do like songs from it, but it's not an album that I can listen to in it's entirety.

Only Warner album I like is Monster.

Really? Out of the Warner albums, Monster is my least favourite. That's not to say it's a bad album but it's not the best. I like it but I don't love it. If I had to pick my absolute favourite album from that period, it would be Automatic for the People. Now that's an album that has to be listened to from beginning to end, no question about it.

That's how I feel about Out of Time.

My favourite album by REM is Lifes Rich Pageant from 1986. It was a big shock to me when I heard it the first time because my conception of REM at the time was as the pre-Radiohead miserabilists of '90s music. I never knew that they could rock so hard.

All of the songs on that album are up there as some of my favourite REM songs.

Same here. 'Losing My Religion' and 'Near Wild Heaven' are two of my favourite songs by anyone. The rest of the LP just doesn't measure up.

'Belong' is rather nice though.

I like Country Feedback and Half A World Away.

Yes, MTV did actually televise bands back in the day :D

i can't listen to bands that have lyrics like, "...Everybody huuuuuurrrrtts, Everybody criiiiiiiiees!" I guess you could say I prefer to avoid unnecessarily corny music.

Sucks that you're missing out on a really good band because of one overplayed song they made late in their career.

:nono:

They don't have very many cheesy, corny songs though. Except maybe Stand and Shiny Happy People, which have been pretty much blacklisted from their concert playlist. I've seen them three times and those songs were never played. But here they are for you to enjoy:

Stand

Shiny Happy People
