Deerhoof

Here's some general info on the band:

Good band. Pretty much a tranquilized, more melodic version of Melt Banana. Here's a really catchy number for your night on the town.

SuperFurry 07-13-2005 04:07 PM

Really love Deerhoof. Saw them for the first time at ATP last March .. amazing!

adidasss 02-23-2006 10:03 AM

em...yeah, so like i downloaded the runners four and i really don't like it ( the singers voice is really.....annoying?)....a waste of bandwidth....oh well, you win some you lose some....

shandapanda 02-23-2006 11:57 AM

i only like the panda song cuz i feel so narcissistic listening to it...otherwise i don't know man..

thepopethatsme 02-27-2006 09:47 AM

wow they were really good until the singer started

dammmmm

IndiElectronica 02-27-2006 09:50 AM

it's a specialized taste for sure... but worth listening to at least once!

Sweet Jane 03-07-2006 03:09 PM

They have some of the coolest drumming I have heard in a loooong while

ladyluckrules 03-07-2006 03:14 PM

I can cope with the singer,
rather enjoyable.

cardboard adolescent 06-18-2006 03:14 PM

Sound Devastation just hooked me up with Apple O' and I'm really enjoying it.

A subdued Melt Banana is a great description.

swim 09-16-2006 01:13 PM

It took a while for the vocals to grow on me. The instrumental is so beautiful.

sleepy jack 09-17-2006 06:38 PM

They're so good live, I like the Runners Four.

cardboard adolescent 09-17-2006 06:39 PM

I had tickets to see them, but my bastard parents wouldn't let me go.

So freakin' pissed.

Sound Devastation 09-18-2006 07:14 AM

my house mate loves them to bits... i find them bearable, in small amounts

MoonlitSunshine 09-18-2006 11:37 AM

I saw them live and thought they were Pretty ****, tbh.

Same here.. the vocals were a little getting used to, but the music more then made up for it, and now am hooked! Both the drumming and the guitar work are incredibly awesome!

Mouseketeer 12-31-2006 07:02 AM

I just got into this band and I think they're quite good. I like the Panda song. I should probabaly listen to the tracks I have some more before making any judgements.

I don't know your musical tastes at all, but if you like awesome drumming/guitar work, you shouldn't be disappointed.

Expletive Deleted 09-18-2007 03:36 PM

...keep it that way. Deerhoof are terrible.

sleepy jack 09-18-2007 03:56 PM

Friend Opportunity is an okay album, and its also one of the most overrated albums of 2007. The Runners Four is way better, but even thats just slightly above okay.

=ladyface= 10-09-2007 12:57 PM

Deerhoof are such a cool band. :p: I got Milk Man because I kept hearing their songs on last.fm a couple of summers ago and it was definitely worth the money. Song Of Sorn's got an interesting structure and Dog On The Sidewalk is so cute. :p: I think Giga Dance is the best track on that album.

I don't own any others but I've had a listen on last.fm and MSN Music and nothing's been as good as anything on Milk Man.

jasongs89 10-10-2007 10:40 PM

Deerhoof's great. I haven't listened to them too much recently, but I do like them a lot. I almost had a chance to see them live, but I missed it. :-/

Urban Hat€monger ? 05-04-2008 03:27 PM

*Bump*

I've had for months a downloaded version of their self titled double 7" single they released in 1996 but I can't find a track listing for it anywhere.
Anyone know what these 6 songs are called ?

Piss Me Off 05-04-2008 04:15 PM

A fairly accurate, authoritatively comprehensive, roughly chronological Deerhoof discography

This says there was only 4 tracks :s

Urban Hat€monger ? 05-04-2008 04:19 PM

I think it maybe their first single tacked onto the end of it.

Rage Against the Machine 09-13-2008 08:38 PM

I'm seeing this band on the 30th of next month. I can't wait. :D

Brad Stengel 09-16-2008 01:28 PM

Dayum. I missed them last time they came around.

I cant wait for "offend maggie". Soooo many good albums coming out October 7, Offend Maggie, Skeletal Lamping, Jay Reatard Singles '08, Nothing Ever Happened single....I wish I could just take like a 20 day nap.

simplephysics 09-16-2008 02:42 PM

Seeing them in October as well, pretty stoked.

debaserr 09-18-2008 01:44 PM

i have the runners four and like it. what would you suggest to go with from there?

enemyat_thesix 09-19-2008 08:44 AM

japanese girl vox are an acquired taste

5-Track 09-19-2008 10:02 PM

Apple O is the only one that's really amazed me yet, and it took a while to grow - I like all their stuff but can't always listen to it - when I'm in the right mood Apple O is just transcendentally beautiful, especially in the way the album as a whole is structured - also saw some live footage that I like a lot (look at the duck!) - enemy, your avatar is splendiferous

enemyat_thesix 09-20-2008 12:37 AM

i know, it's the best

Malicious Wakizashi 11-18-2008 10:17 AM

Deerhoof

This band is awesome, I'm surprised there's no thread dedicated to them. Their album Apple O' is brilliant with their newest album Offend Maggie in a close second. Seeing them live a second time recently was truly awesome, I can not get enough of them. What do you think?

Offend Maggie is for the most part absolute trash. Friend Opportunity was miles, MILES better than Offend Maggie. Offend Maggie is the sound of a band, late in their career, with not much more to say and having a hard time saying it.

They're certainly an acquired taste. You have to have some oddball weirdo in you to like this band. You also have to sort of focus on the rhythms. I also can't often stand her voice, but it's as you said...

I saw them sometime ago. The small asian lead singer really has a presence on stage.

Malicious Wakizashi 11-18-2008 03:43 PM

I haven't had many listens to it yet but i thinks it's not too bad so far, Friend Opportunity was just a little bit too scattered for me, this one feels as bit more coherent.

Wow. Are we talking about the same albums? Friend Opportunity basically flows seamlessly on the hypothetical 'first side' and then delves into odder territory on side two, but there's clearly some sort of common thread running through it. Offend Maggie is a complete repulsive mess. It's good for 3 or so songs, then becomes one of the most scattered, pointless records I have heard in living memory.

You wait 'til the second half of the album starts to grate...

I've heard that this band do have an acquired taste. But I'm intrigued (and also an oddball weirdo) and so I want to check them out. Any suggestions of where I should start?
