Whenever I hear an Oasis song I get this urge to listen to Squeeze instead. Like, why bother listening to the so-so version when you can listen to the good version?

Urban Hat€monger ? 05-14-2015 07:18 PM

Squeeze?

Which Oasis songs have you been listening to?

Ya, they sound nothing alike to me.

Goofle 05-14-2015 07:39 PM

I don't know any band that sounds like Oasis. Kinda like how Arctic Monkeys have a very unique sound, despite not being particularly "ground breaking".

DriveYourCarDownToTheSea 05-14-2015 07:40 PM

They don't sound alike, but they're both a similar Britpop style.

I dunno, when I hear a song like Hello it gives me this urge to listen to something like Is That Love.

Squeeze is a similar style while being a lot catchier.

Urban Hat€monger ? 05-14-2015 07:45 PM

This is where Hello came from..

In fact I vaguely remember there being something about it not being listed on the track listing originally until a lawsuit over royalties for it was settled, but I may be mistaken.

RoxyRollah 05-14-2015 08:02 PM

Urb, that looks like Gary Glitter.

Course I havent clicked the link.

But they have nothing to do with one another, like funk and disco,Tool and electronica.;)

Uhg! I'll take Oasis on this one, there is a reason they sold millions of records and no one has ever heard of Squeeze.

All I can say is, our tastes are completely the opposite.

I can definitely hear the similarity, but I'd still take Oasis over that any day. Better production and a more dynamic sound. They wouldn't happen to have any songs as badass as this would they?

Janszoon 05-14-2015 08:36 PM

The impression I've always had of Oasis is that they were pretty good at writing bittersweet ballady type songs and pretty bad at rocking out, yet they insisted on trying to go the rocking out route on a very sizable percentage of their songs.

That song does nothing for me.

I think Squeeze is a bit poppier while Oasis is probably a bit rockier.

Maybe rock purists will like this Rockabilly tune?

Because they rule at it. It's why I'd rather listen to an entire Oasis album than a Blur album. I love a lot of Blur's songs, but their actual albums don't have as much energy.

They don't rule at it though, they're terrible at it.

That is just nauseatingly cutesy.

Can't please everyone. *shrugs*

Sorry. Like I said though, the bittersweet songs are decent. I just wish they had done more of that kind of thing.

The Batlord 05-14-2015 09:21 PM

Cause that's what we all need. More weepy alt rock.

Well, we certainly don't need more "rocking" tracks that fail to rock.

DriveYourCarDownToTheSea 05-14-2015 09:25 PM

It's not like we "need" more heavy metal or loud, thrashing rock tunes either.

We don't "need" any more of anything. It's what you can do well, even if it's been done many times already.

The same thing was said about Roy Orbison, The Beach Boys, Bread, Journey, Chil Collins, Kenny G. etc etc every generation has an Oasis, it's a vicious cycle.

Cuthbert 05-15-2015 11:21 AM

There are two songs of theirs I like and they've both been posted.

I'm with Frownland tbh.

Where? They must have really hidden it well.

Well you're certainly not gonna find it by shoving your head up your ass.

Well I haven't had any luck finding it by listening to their music, that's for sure.

Oddly, "Wonderwall" came on the radio this aft--first time I'd heard anything by them… I changed channels before the song ended because it was so boring.

It is. I love that song. It falls into the bittersweet category that I was saying they should have done more of.

Chula Vista 05-16-2015 08:54 PM

Plug!

FLACCIDDISKS 05-23-2015 02:56 AM

I'm from Manchester and I have to say that Oasis were a phenomenon that encapsulated the mood of the whole country at the time. Sadly, I don't think the music will ever really stand the test of time the way of other (far superior) Manchester bands - i.e Joy Division, The Smiths.

They've done some alright songs, I've seen them live a few times back in the early days and they put on a good show.

Just don't think they are as relevant as everyone expected them to be.

I blame this on the brothers mostly not being able to stand one another for most of the time. They did great stuff when they put aside the BS and concentrated on the music.
