Pavement are crap compared to Interpol. I may be slightly bias as I'm a huuuge Interpol fan, but I've listened to Pavement and they don't really do it for me. Whatever "it" is... But meh, I guess you like what you like. *Waves her "GO INTERPOL!" flag*

Haha i have to say the first time i heard interpol i thought it was going to be some crap emo band

When I first heard Interpol I didn't think they were anything special... and I still don't. Pavement on the other hand are one of my favourite bands ever, their only competition in terms of being the best comes from the Pixies and the Violent Femmes first album. To anyone who thinks Interpol is better than them, just listen to Stop Breathin', Gold Soundz, Stereo, Trigger Cut or any of their songs really. They're all excellent, with the possible exception of Hit The Plane Down.

Dont forget shady lane, embassy row, folk jam, cream for gold, spit on a stranger and no life singed her

Yeah, they're all great tracks. Hey, Barwise, do you have Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain? I reckon it has most of their best songs on it.

Now that I think about it actually it's very hard to compare Pavement to Interpol in terms of songwriting and technical talent. The two bands play very different styles of music.

I like Interpol better than Pavement, but both are good.

I like Interpol.

We're forgetting the fact that Pavement kinda' sucked. Their music wasn't really anything special, except for the fact that it launched billions of ****ty sound-alikes (except for "Cut Your Hair"... that's a great song). I doubt they'd even be as well-known as they are if they hadn't feuded with the Smashing Pumpkins (I'd side with Pavement). They really were just a '90's band. They were "alternative" back when it meant something, though, so due props should be given.

On the other hand, Interpol would be considered a ****ty sound-alike (Afghan Whigs and Joy Division, the critworld would say), but they're on Matador, for chrissakes. While they may remind people of said post-punk, they really don't sound anything like any of the bands they're compared to. Coldplay and Travis both "suck" because they're considered Radiohead rip-offs, but all I can think of to relate those bands is the fact they're British. Sure, Chris Martin sings like Thom Yorke, but Paul Banks (Interpol) sounds absolutely nothing like Ian Curtis, and for that reason they can't be written-off as a sound-alike.

That being said, I hope I convinced everyone who disagrees with me that they are wrong.

My opinion is way more important.
