Pavement Or Interpol
Yo, Just wondering which one you guys and girls think is better pavement or interpol, i prefer pavement (and thats gotten me into a bit of trouble believe it or not) but anywho knock yourselfs out
|
Interpol
|
i haven't heard pavement but i find it hard to believe they would top interpol...the editors shure don't....
|
i wouldnt really put them in the same league at the moment really. they play similair music but interpol are so much bigger its not really an even contest (if you get what i mean)
|
Do any of you actually know Pavement?
Well anyway, Pavement>>>>>>Interpol |

This isn`t a serious question is it?

Interpol in a few years will be known as "Interwho?". Pavement has influenced countless indie and post-rock bands and will be legends for a long time. The comparison is pointless.
|
well...eh...yeah the comparison is pointless. I mean, Interpol will never reach the indie rock valhallah that Pavement has but in all honesty, I never thought Pavement was so great, though I do enjoy the Silver Jews.
|
Pavement are crap compared to Interpol. I may be slightly bias as I'm a huuuge Interpol fan, but I've listened to Pavement and they don't really do it for me. Whatever "it" is... But meh, I guess you like what you like. *Waves her "GO INTERPOL!" flag*

Haha i have to say the first time i heard interpol i thought it was going to be some crap emo band
|
When I first heard Interpol I didn't think they were anything special... and I still don't. Pavement on the other hand are one of my favourite bands ever, their only competition in terms of being the best comes from the Pixies and the Violent Femmes first album. To anyone who thinks Interpol is better than them, just listen to Stop Breathin', Gold Soundz, Stereo, Trigger Cut or any of their songs really. They're all excellent, with the possible exception of Hit The Plane Down.
|
Dont forget shady lane, embassy row, folk jam, cream for gold, spit on a stranger and no life singed her
|
Yeah, they're all great tracks. Hey, Barwise, do you have Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain? I reckon it has most of their best songs on it.
Now that I think about it actually it's very hard to compare Pavement to Interpol in terms of songwriting and technical talent. The two bands play very different styles of music. |
I like Interpol better than Pavement, but both are good.
|
I like Interpol.
|
We're forgetting the fact that Pavement kinda' sucked. Their music wasn't really anything special, except for the fact that it launched billions of ****ty sound-alikes (except for "Cut Your Hair"... that's a great song). I doubt they'd even be as well-known as they are if they hadn't feuded with the Smashing Pumpkins (I'd side with Pavement). They really were just a '90's band. They were "alternative" back when it meant something, though, so due props should be given.
On the other hand, Interpol would be considered a ****ty sound-alike (Afghan Whigs and Joy Division, the critworld would say), but they're on Matador, for chrissakes. While they may remind people of said post-punk, they really don't sound anything like any of the bands they're compared to. Coldplay and Travis both "suck" because they're considered Radiohead rip-offs, but all I can think of to relate those bands is the fact they're British. Sure, Chris Martin sings like Thom Yorke, but Paul Banks (Interpol) sounds absolutely nothing like Ian Curtis, and for that reason they can't be written-off as a sound-alike. That being said, I hope I convinced everyone who disagrees with me that they are wrong. My opinion is way more important. |

Ahhh gee what an arse "My opinion is way more important" ummm before you go around saying more bands are crap, do you even listen to GOOD music? oh and midgley, yeah i got it but ive spent half my time listening to velvet underground and slanted and enchanted so i aint really got around to listening to it properly |

Hahaha, stupid Barwise.
Anyway, if you don't like Pavement I think you're missing out but that's ok cause i don't like a ****load of bands. I think Pavement and Interpol are both at the top of their sounds and props to them for achieving that. |
Actually, I just told myself I didn't like Pavement because my friend bought Crooked Rain before I got the chance to, and he never liked any cd I bought, so I needed ammo. Whatta' prick.
|
Well sorry for think irony works better and is easier to get when its shorter and in person, writing ironicly is a bitch (well thats just me, and i nearly failed english)
|
interpol. 'pda' is a well good song

dunno just cover purple rain or some crap, preforming a prince song and having bottles thrown at you might help
|
sorry to all the prince fans out there but he was the first person who came to mind
|
Muchos respectos to Pavement on their influence and what they kick-started and so on, but their music has grown quite stale to me after a while, and thus, as quite the Interpol fanatic, Ill have to go with my NYC Indie Goth babies. They do make much more memorable "pop" moments than Pavement, if you want to put it like that. I dont remember Pavement writing anything half as fantastic as "Evil", "Say Hello To The Angels" or "Obstacle 1".

And i`ve said lots of good things about bands , even on this thread if you bother to look. |

Oh **** off
Not this arguement AGAIN. I`m here to express an opinion and I do , deal with it. I would like to think that there are some good indie guitar bands around but as a whole most the them sound boring & generic & I very much doubt that most of them have the lasting appeal to even get as far as a third album, I apologise if this doesn`t fit into your NME loving world where the next indie guitar band that comes along is the greatest thing ever , it`s got absolutly **** all to do with me being all high & mighty & thinking that my opinion is the greatest in the world , it`s got more to do with me hearing these 'greatest bands ever' and being bored ridged by them. If you can`t handle the fact that not everybody is happy indieville at the moment then thats not my problem , if you`re perfectly happy buying album after album of generic indie rock then thats fine too , just don`t EVER expect me try & be nice about something that I think is ****ing awful. |
Actually, Urban has talked about a handful of new indie bands, and with praise too.
To me, Interpol falls into a category of boring new breed indie bands that deserve less than 1/10 of the attention they are receiving worldwide. Just because some music journalist has high regards for them, doesn't make them a good band. |
New Bands i`ve started threads on in the past few months (bearing in mind I was away for about 2 months)
Acoustic Ladyland , The Engineers , The Go Team , The Tears , Dalek , Tom Vek , LCD Soundsystem , Comets On Fire , Mr Scruff And thats without mentioning the ones about Nick Drake , Alice Cooper , Aerosmith , Stereolab , Public Image LTD , Super Furry Animals , Big Star & many many more. |

i just think it's very annoying that you walk into every indie thread and shit on the band in question...after 3 months of the same comments about every goddamn band it gets a bit weary..... |
It gets a bit weary listening to them too.
Don`t worry if I hear something good you`ll be the first to know |

I find it odd that one minute you`re complaining about us being negetive about a band you happen to like & the next you`re bitching at Hookers, saying that people can form their own opinions without needing journalists. |
