pavement is good but not very original at all. just about all of slanted and enchanted sounds like either sonic youth. the fall, rem or some other band from just before their time

i like interpol too, theyre by far the best of the new dance rock bands(killers and the bravery suck). but yeah the joy division influence is there in full effect. i think i hear a little Gang of Four too. do i not?

I suppose you can find GOF in the cocktail of any new New Wave band these days but the Echo and the Bunnymen/ Bauhaus side of things is definitely more prominent in an Interpol Manhattan....

how is this even an arguement. interpol has two albums, one of which is widely considered as good. pavement not only came out with two of the most classic indie albums(slanted and crooked rain) as well as plenty other solid ones and are huge influences in todays indie rock. pavements better, period.

how could you say that pavements lyrics are not original. nobody wrote like that before malkmus.

I haven't heard much pavement but I'm fairly partial to Interpol. They're very catchy.

I'm going to have to go with Pavement just because of Slanted and Enchanted. I don't really like any of their other albums all that much but that one album still manages to be far better than anything Interpol has done.

Interpol, without a doubt.
