The Raveonettes

Hmmm no thread about them yet?

Anyway i`ve liked them for a few years now. Their debut mini album was awesome. Shame their first full album was a huge dissapointment.

Anyway I finally heard the new album today even though I bought it weeks ago (I lost it during a tidy up campaign) and it`s rather good. Nice to see they actually bothered to write more than one song for this album.

I think i`ll make Love In A Trashcan my summer anthem , well that and Trouble With Dreams by Eels anyway.

I always overlook them; I think it has something to do with their name.
But, Love in a Trashcan has such a catchy beat.

And dude, I *LOVE* the Eels. They've always been such a good band. I'm gonna remember to check out that double disc.

I really like The Raveonettes. I downloaded their cd and it's really good, "Love In A Trashcan" is really fun. So yes, I seem to think they're a good band.

I loved Whip It On and Chain Gang of Love, but hated Pretty In Black.

IndiElectronica 01-08-2006 02:58 PM

I quite like them... the Jesus & Mary Chain looks with some almost Pop songs... odd mix, but I like it :)

Urban Hat€monger ? 01-08-2006 03:00 PM

Are you saying the Jesus & Mary Chain didn`t have pop songs?

FIGHT!!!!!!!!

IndiElectronica 01-08-2006 03:02 PM

Urban Hat€monger ? 01-08-2006 03:19 PM

I did a search on them , there are 27 posts mentioning them 17 are mine & I was also the first to mention them on the boards....so there ;)

IndiElectronica 01-08-2006 03:30 PM

Ok - gloves are off! Here's my JAMC stuff/history...

CDs
All the regular albums of course
The JAMC Live in Concert (released 2003)
Barbed Wire Kisses
Sound of Speed EP (Japan)
Sound of Speed (Compliation
JAMC - Complete Peel Session
10 Smash Hits
also have a 5 cd singles, 2 vhs tapes and a 3 vinyl singles (the most prized being the 'Far Gone And Out' boxed 12'' with the dance mix - I LOVE that remix)

Seen them live 3 times. Lollopolooza 2 (I WAS the mosh pit for their first couple songs), their private Sub-Pop relase party in Seattle for Munki (they were drunk and didn't know most their songs - lol. Friend got me and my bro (also a huge fan - in fact he gave me psychocandy when i was 13 and it scared me at the time) tix for this) and saw them headline at the Showbox in Seattle mid 90's (I hate RocknRoll tour I think).

FYI - Jim Reid is touring right now - http://jimreid.amniisia.com/ I plan to see him in Oxford...

Urban Hat€monger ? 01-08-2006 03:31 PM

shut up :(

IndiElectronica 01-08-2006 03:34 PM

sorry - but hopefully you didn't know about Jim touring... i'm looking VERY forward to that!

Seen Tom Hingley (inspiral carpets) Jim Bob (Carter USM) each do solo acoustic shows and both were GREAT!!

Urban Hat€monger ? 01-08-2006 03:35 PM

I live in the channel islands , I don`t know about ANYONE touring :(

IndiElectronica 01-08-2006 04:14 PM

sorry - i forgot you lived that far out... maybe time to move?! :)

Urban Hat€monger ? 01-08-2006 04:17 PM

Well I go to London every so often but it means I have to part with about £400 everytime I want to see a gig

IndiElectronica 01-08-2006 04:22 PM

is that all?! damn!

;)

sleepy jack 06-05-2007 04:50 PM

bump, I leave for them in 10 minutes my friends and I got free tickets. Who/what do they sound like? QUICKQUICKQUICK

sleepy jack 06-06-2007 01:44 AM

Yeah they eat ****ing face, someone get me albums now please.

Shoe 03-22-2009 04:04 PM

My cousin drums for them. I think they might have possibly broken up as the vocalist is setting up a label and my cousin returned to Denmark. I actually just started listening to them this week and really dig it. Back when I was like eight they sent me posters, pics, autographed stuff, and cds. But I thought the music was annoying because I listened to Britney Spears so I trashed the stuff eventually. BUT I really dig em now. I didn't know people had actually heard of them. I thought they were just nobodies in Denmark. Cool!

Lucky... I don't know any well known musicians. Kinda sucks that they had their tour bus stolen and shit...

Shoe 03-22-2009 04:29 PM

They did? I didn't hear about that haha.
Looked it up and it turns out I think everyone in the band quit except the two vocalists who are just a duo group now.

2ean 03-23-2009 12:08 PM

Lucky punch

I really think their albums have been a disapointment.

The started out with a singel that rocked(i cant remember the name), But since then its gone down hill.

I had such high expectations from these artists from my country :-)

Didn't they start off as a duo with a drum machine anyway?

Mojo 03-24-2009 07:26 PM

I loved Whip It On. Its pretty high up on my favourites list but I never bothered after that. I heard a few tracks from their first full length after Whip It On and wasnt that bothered and the interest slowly faded. I might have to give them another go.

I think so. The Chain Gang of Love and Pretty In Black were my cousin though, Jakob Hoyer. But now he plays for some Danish jazz act that I think might be fairly recognized. I'll find out. He was never really into The Raveonettes to tell the truth. Just needed to fund his jazz obsession.

adidasss 09-18-2009 12:28 PM

The new album is oot. It's pretty catchy, 'specially Bang! and Breaking into cars. Makes me want to hear their other stuff.

scottsy 09-19-2009 09:28 PM

I heard some Raveoneettes on Triple J radio back when I was living in Australia... I thought they were pretty decent! Wasn't really sure what became of them though... however it seems like they *might* have continued on in some capacity!

adidasss 09-20-2009 02:50 AM

I can't stop listening to this album. Certainly one of the most infectious this year.

scottsy 09-20-2009 10:47 AM

Wow, is it THAT good? I'll put 'em on my list of future bands to check out....

adidasss 09-20-2009 11:06 AM

I'm a major pop whore. If you're into pop music at all you'll love it. People who like their earlier, noisier work aren't that thrilled about it though...:\

pourmeanother 09-20-2009 03:32 PM

I grabbed 'Lust Lust Lust' a little over a week ago and was pulled in by the heavy weight, and distorted guitar. I really like the album. Sounds like you think this next album ditches some of those elements? I'll have to see if 'In and Out...' agrees with me...

adidasss 09-20-2009 03:35 PM

Yeah, there's really just one "noisier" song on it. They've been drifting towards this "poppier" sound with the two 2008 EPs...

That might just rule me out then. I think i'm gonna give it a shot anyway.

scottsy 10-10-2009 10:35 PM

Sometimes there's nothing greater than a good catchy pop song..... if it's done well, of course... these guys might just be the kinda band for that!

music_phantom13 10-13-2009 08:30 PM

I really like their new album, but it more or less completely disposes of the noise aspects of their sound. It's fantastic pop though, and Gone Forever and Last Dance are two of my favorite songs to listen to when I feel like **** and can't do upbeat music. I think I might enjoy it more if the beginning of this year had played out a bit differently.

Mojo 10-14-2009 05:36 AM

I listened to the new one through and it's pretty decent. I may even prefer it to Lust, Lust, Lust.

indienerd 10-14-2009 07:55 AM

I saw the Raveonettes at the San Diego Miller Lite Independence Jam 4-5 years ago and they were amazing! So much energy.

Shoe 10-19-2009 03:54 PM

I'm seeing them this Saturday. They're playing with the Black Angels (don't know them). But I am extremely excited. Unfortunatly I don't think my cousin will be drumming with them that day. But I think he still plays whenever they tour Denmark.
Also, they better play a few songs off Lust Lust Lust. That album is my obsession. I would want them to play Hallucinations, Lust, Dead Sound, The Candy, and The Beat Dies. Hell actually I love all the songs off that album.
