It's a good feel good pop / rock album, IMO! I don't expect them to reinvent rock music, I do just like to kick back and enjoy a simple rock album every now and again... and Only By The Night does that job quite nicely!

It's a cool little catchy song... nothing that is going to change the face of rock music as a whole, but nevertheless it's just fun, and very enjoyable!

Closer and Cold Desert for me are two of KOL's best tunes although I am not much a fan of the album it's certainly not as bad as people try to make it out to be just because it appealed to a few more people that had not heard of them before

I don't think it's a bad pop / rock album... even the greatest of bands / artists have their commercial breakthroughs that old fans seem to want to deride.... it may not be their greatest work ever, but hey it probably ensured they can keep writing, playing and making albums for some time to come, as it got them noticed, so hopefully they'll be sticking around and making great stuff for years to come...

I would have considered them one of the best bands to date since 2000 before Only by the Night. I enjoy their latest work to an extent--it is not good enough for them to spend two years touring on.

Well, if they're still selling shows, then I don't see why they wouldn't continue.... plus, they are planning a new release in about, what? A month? I don't think they're being lazy if that's what you're getting at...

I discovered Kings of Leon with Only by the Night, based on a friend's recommendation/suggestion that I lop off my ears and toss 'em if I had not ever heard of this band by that point.

It might be because I started with that one, but I like it over other KOL albums I've heard since (I do tend to cling to albums that first grabbed me and on some occasions that will be the "trendy" one).

That's not to say I don't like the other albums - I do like everything I have heard.

Because of the Times is the smarter album.

The prior two (names escaping me at the moment) are more raw but I like the hints of their style-to-be.

I haven't heard anything from their upcoming album yet, but I am anxious for the chance to.

i would totally agree with that statement. and i know i don't like their newer stuff as much when they have a clothes line with a 100 dollar banadana. that made me sad.
