For what reasons do you hate them? Going from love to hate is such a drastic change in feelings towards an artist. I don't think I've gone from full-on love to flat-out hate.

I've only heard On Avery Island and I remember thinking it had a neat sound. I haven't gotten around to listening to anything else, though. I'm sure I'll give Aeroplane a chance eventually, but it's one of those albums that has been hyped such an awful lot that I've always been paranoid about listening to it for the first time.

I think the Ill Duck has openly become a maniacal hysteric at this point - in the clinical sense. Unless you're a psychiatrist, just ignore him.

And when you do get around to listening to Aeroplane, don't feel like you're missing something if you still like On Avery Island more. Both are good but On Avery Island is better.

Mangum's voice does get very irritating with repeated listens. That together with repetitive song structure and constant discussion all over the place makes it fairly easy to get sick of them.

I agree with this - but I think it happens mostly on Aeroplane, on which his whine-singing is by far the most pronounced and dramatic.

Just give it a shot, despite what people say it is a better album than On Avery Island.

I don't even remember any songs from On Avery Island, just that I thought it had a neat sound. Not really that attached to it. I'll give Aeroplane a spin, and then maybe Avery again. See which I prefer.

It's certainly better. I usually listen to both of them in a row every three or four months nowadays.

Can't you just say that you like one more rather than insisting that your opinion is definitive? Granted I did that myself. I'll redact my previous statement and say that I prefer On Avery Island.
Unless you're insinuating that whoever has listened to both albums the most gets to choose which one is better, because I've got you beat if that's the case.
