Neutral Milk Hotel

This band is amazing.

Zealious 04-23-2005 10:21 PM

I like them too. I'm currently listening to their "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea" CD. The Holland, 1945 song is really captivating.

Neutral Milk Hotel

I've loved this band for ages, but I've only heard In the Aeroplane Over the Sea. It's, in my opinion, a classic album.

Has anyone heard or got On Avery Island? I've looked through a few CD stores but I've had no luck finding it.

Sweet Jane 08-22-2005 09:55 PM

Try harder, its out there and pretty damn good. Also check out the band Olivia Tremour Control.

Aeroplane Over the Sea is a great album, and I just got On Avery Island on vinyl. It's pretty good as well, it sounds a lot like Aeroplane except a couple of the tracks are more experimental and overall more lo-fi, though that might just be because it's on vinyl...

Expletive Deleted 01-02-2006 04:44 PM

All of Elephant 6 is amazing.

IndiElectronica 01-03-2006 04:31 AM

On Avery Island is much more experimental. It's still worth getting though.

I love this band. In the Aeroplane Over the Sea is my favorite album.

Kadakron 06-22-2006 02:18 PM

It's probably in my top 5. It's extraordinary.

sleepy jack 03-30-2007 01:24 AM

In The Aeroplane Over the Sea is like omg, and becoming one of my favorite albums at the moment. Two-Headed Boy Part II is like holy shit, one of the best songs ever. Jeff Mangum is becoming one of my favorite songwriters.

Kadakron 03-30-2007 05:27 AM

Yeah!

bloodorflies 03-30-2007 06:48 AM

i thought i posted in here already...i guess not...but, how could you not love Nuetral milk hotel.

drainxthexframe 04-02-2007 10:08 PM

I like Kevin Devine's versions of any song by NMH. They're even better than the originals.. Especially when Jesse Lacey is screaming along to Cotton Crush. uhhhhorgasm

I just purchased that yesterday and it is amazing. I like the first part of Two Headed Boy the most I think. Holland, 1945 is another great song.

kheffelf 04-26-2007 04:23 PM

In the Aeroplane over the Sea is in my top twenty albums of all time, now this is my list, but I went to a Mason Jennings show last summer and he covered King of Carrot Flowers, very cool cover.

On, Avery Island and In the Aeroplane... are both fantastic albums. Did anyone ever hear the Everything Is EP. It sounds so much different than anything they've ever done. It came out in 2001.

By the way, this is my first post.

The Dave 04-30-2007 05:18 PM

Congrats on making a good first post and no, I haven't heard Everything Is but I would like to.

Mouseketeer 05-01-2007 01:25 PM

NMH are cool. I have the classic album (does it really need mentioning my name?) and I love it. I haven't checked out their ealier album, is 'On Avery Island' worth a look?

IndieShotYou 05-01-2007 02:34 PM

Yes! Yes! Yes!

On, Avery Island is definitely worth a look. One of the greatest debuts of all time (in my opinion).:hphones:

Jeff Mangum is so amazing, Neutral Milk Hotel is now my 2nd favorite bumping Bright Eyes to 3rd place.

jackhammer 05-28-2007 10:59 AM

I have heard this name being bandied around on these forums, so I decided to give them a go. I got hold of HYPE CITY-but was this a good place to start? There are a couple of really good tracks on there and some not so good, but I would definitely like to hear some more.

No, thats a really really really bad place to start. Get In the Aeroplane Over the Sea and if you can't find that get On Avery Island.

jackhammer 05-28-2007 04:46 PM

Thanks Crowquill-will take your advice-I'm never too old to take advice! Got Aeroplane-will give that a listen.

pheurton 05-30-2007 09:20 AM

The only bad thing about NMH is 'invent yourself a shortcake'.

Bane of your existence 05-30-2007 10:53 AM

They are awesome, I just don't like how everyone worships them when they essentially only put out one great album.

sleepy jack 05-30-2007 03:04 PM

I think On Avery Island was just as good as In the Aeroplane Over the Sea its just harder to get into.

bloodorflies 06-02-2007 10:02 AM

thedividedsky1 06-02-2007 07:55 PM

I only have a few NMH songs such as Holland 1945 and Oh Comely. I'm a fan of folk music and I like what I've heard. What would you guys recommend.

sleepy jack 06-02-2007 07:56 PM

In the Aeroplane Over the Sea.
