Metric? The Wrens? The Walkmen? The Unicorns? Xiu Xiu?etc.
Does anyone have any thoughts on these groups? I am a fan, personally. I just bought Bows + Arrows (the new Walkmen cd). I am quite impressed. Old World Underground, Where Are You Now? by Metric and Meadowlands by The Wrens are two of my favourite albums at the moment. Any opinions?

I like the single from Metric - Combat Baby.. great tune
I love The Unicorns. "Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone?" is a great album. And out of the rest, I've only heard of Xiu Xiu, but I haven't heard much to voice a solid opinion, but so far so good.
I love the bows + arrows from the walkmen I have only heard two or three songs off of the album but they all kick ars I think I am gonna hafta buy that album
I haven't really heard any of the walkmen's new stuff but I love their old!
btw, i 'discovered' them when their song 'we've been had' played in a car ad. Great song, odd ad. |
^ thats how i heard of them too (car ad)
yea i like the walkmen, ive only heard a few of their songs. i may get their latest cd, ive been told its good. |
i'm obsessed with metric. old world underground is an amazing cd.
I <3 The Unicorns

The Unicorns are soooooo awsome!
I'm a fan. of them all.
I love the Wrens and The Walkmen. Never heard any of the other stuff but I'll check it out.
i heard the unicorns on the radio today thought they were cool, is the album worth buying?
i've only heard of the walkmen from that list but i love bows + arrows, really fantastic album!
Xiu Xiu isn't bad. I never been into the really weird kinda sound, but Xiu Xiu and some of The Unicorns is really good.
Metric - Fabulous. "Old World Underground..." is one of my favorite albums. I don't think I've ever heard a song by them that I don't like.
The Unicorns - Uberconfusing. "Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone?" is the only Unicorns album I own, and it took some time to get used to their sound. Great band, though. |
I've only heard Xiu Xiu's new album stuff like Clowne Town, and so far it sounds pretty good.
I find Bows and Arrows to be kind of repetitive personally. But I still like the songs by themselves.
I was going to see a Metric concert when they came to Chicago. They're a favorite of mine. I'll have to check out the rest of them.
Xiu Xiu are okay.. The walkmen ive heard once before but i just cant remember what the sounded like.
the unicorns= horrible
xiu xiu= amazing |
ARCADE FIRE ROCKS MY SOCKS.
I'm glad most people like this music. It's definitely awesome. Has anyone heard of: hidden cameras, yo la tengo, manitoba, ted leo, or elliott smith. AMAZING stuff. |
The Wrens and The Walkmen are both very good bands, never heard much of the others.
walkmen are cool. the rat is a sweeeeeeeeet song

Woops forgot I hadnt replied to this previously. Xiu Xiu are amazing. Wrens aren't too bad either.
Hm....I've listened to metric a while back. I had the oppertunity to see them, but I didn't end up going. Nonetheless, I think they are pretty decent.
mmm....me likey metric.....nice....xiu xiu are fucking horrible and seeing as how a certain person likes both xiu xiu and the unicorns i shall give them a miss and assume they're just as horrible
^ Was that aimed at me? Well anyway, Xiu Xiu put on a pretty good show, but I definitely see why you wouldn't like them. Metric is quite catchy and cute. The unicorns are also pretty catchy, I like a few of their songs. I'm fairly familiar with the Wrens, but it's just not coming to me right now. Not at all familiar with the Walkmen.
INDIE FORUM, GUESS WHO'S BACK?!?! |

( who's back? ) EDIT: i downloaded metric's live it out, and i couldn't agree more with the amazon reviewer, the added guitars ruined everything, instead of catchy electro-pop tunes we got a yeah yeah yeah's clone, and it sucks balls.....the difference between the albums is astonishing, and it's a real shame because i really love the first one.... |
I like the Walkmen's music, but those vocals kinda grate on me, probably one of those ines I should listen to more
Some comments...
I prefer the new Metric to the debut. Old World Underground, blah blah blah didn't even pick up until halfway into it, where I liked Live It Out from the start. Neither album really wowed me, though. I think Xiu Xiu is amazing, but definitely more of an acquired taste. The Unicorns are great. In fact, I was just about to recommend them in your electro-pop thread, adidasss. Give em a chance, you'll probably love them. |

I love all of those bands.
Walkmen and Metric are fantastic. |
I like The Unicorns..
I love music like this..
I'm a massive xiu xiu fan. ''I think Xiu Xiu is amazing, but definitely more of an acquired taste.'' - hahah i totally agree, i play them to people and they're like 'what a load of crap' or their facial expressions say it all. but i love them. |
I love Metric and The Unicorns. The Wrens and The Walkmen are good when I'm in the mood and Xiu Xiu has just rubs me the wrong way.
I like Xiu Xiu, but I think they're like an aquired sound, so to speak. I had to listen to them a few times before fully appreciating their unique sound.
the walkmen i can say is a group i like, i do really like the stuff from their bows and arrows album.
with metric i really like Old World Underground(thanks adidasss) and their single that's out now monster hospital, but i haven't heard anything more from them. the unicorns are awesoome! i really like practically everything about them, but they did break up and form Islands, i heard the album and it does sound islandsy and you can totally hear them, i think Return to the Sea is a good album, the songs are a bit longer and there's a rap on one of the songs. all in all i think listening to it would be an adventure. with Xiu Xiu and the Wrens i just really haven't gotten round to listening t it. my five minutes. |
