Supergrass - Road To Rouen
Got this yesterday.
Just WOW. You can really tell they`ve matured. This album is gorgeous full of strings & melodies & they still have the really catchy pop hooks , although it`s done in a totally different way. The loud stomping rock songs they did in the past are gone but the songs are so good you dont miss them one bit. I`ve liked this band since their debut album came out which must be about 10 years ago now & I can honestly say this is the best album they have ever released. And there`s not that many bands you can say that about after 10 years & 5 albums. |

...this album grows and grows with every listen. |
Really liked st petersburg, the rest of the album sound like that? i found their britpop stuff a bit too annoying.St petersburg sounds like theyve grown up.

Supergrass
Just heard them they are ****ing brilliant. What do you think of them?
I'd almost forgotten about this band.
Shame cos I quite liked them. No idea what they did after Road to Rouen... |
'I Should Coco' has some cracking tunes. A few tunes passed my radar but not enough to declare my undying love for them lol
They really are such a fun band to listen to, and often get overlooked. you only have to listen to a greatest hits selection, like Supergrass is 10, to see how many great catchy songs they did.
they're aiight. they had enough good songs during the heyday of britpop. one of the better acts of the period without any doubt. i'm not sure if they really have done anything worth a mention in the last 10 years, tho.
They're one of the best bands doing business today in my opinion. Road To Rouen is a brilliant, brilliant album. In It For the Money and their self-titled albums are sheer class too
I would'nt mind hearing their debut again. Unfortunately I can't find it now ;)
Supergrass are a vital band with much dollar value per square inch of music. I would guide people to their album 'life on other planets' it's a psychadelic punk mashup, brilliant song writing unique delivery. track that record down.
Wow, way to bump an old thread.
I like Supergrass a lot too, but I don't think I share the same enjoyment for their later stuff. It's been going down for them the last 3 albums, I think. I should coco, In it for the money and Supergrass are all very good albums. |
yeah i know a lot of people agree with you...I guess a part of me agrees to, the first 3 are the classics, maybe my opinion is coloured by the fact that I saw them when they were touring their later albums, I feel a stronger connection with the riffs, melodies, and production of the last 3 albums......
Especially on the last album, Diamond Hoo Ha, I think the Supergrass sound is getting somewhat watered down. They're sounding more and more like modern rock contemporaries .. Road to Rouen was a good album, I really liked songs like St. Petersburg, but I tired of the songs rather quickly and they had little replay-value.
whats your opinon of 'life on other planets'.....one of the songs off that album was meant to be on 'I should Coco'. I would say they are the third best live band I've ever seen!!!
Yeah Supergrass has done some pretty good stuff. I Should Coco got me hooked and I think its a pretty good start for people interested in this band. In It for the Money is good, Life on Other Planets I have but have not listened to as much as the others... on Road to Rouen you can definitely tell they are moving a step forward... almost more serious with their music and less silly as on I Should Coco.

I prefer Life on other Planets to road to rouen actually, but I think overall, the sound is a bit simpler and the songs again have less to keep you coming back compared to the earlier albums. For example, most should be easy to play if you're learning guitar. :p |
I inherited their self titled album. I have yet to play it.
