japan is great for noise rock with the boredoms and melt-banana being very good. as for punk, havent really heard any..ever.

I think one of the members died recently. They (the other two remaning members) just released some sorta best of album and a live dvd f some sort.

in any event I don't really care for them. yeah I like them and their a lot of their music but I think they're overrated. Yes they're rather influential but still a tad overrated.
