No, drinking water is not the same as getting it from food. Read the catinfo.org link I posted above, she's got a whole write-up on that issue.
If raw food is too expensive (and actually it's not really all that much so, but I digress), then just feed wet cat food. Wet cat food is fine. Cats don't need fiber, and raw meat has plenty of "roughage" to clean your teeth. In fact, dry cat food doesn't even get exposed to but a portion of the teeth. On the other hand watch my video of my cat chomping on the pork chop - she's exposing pretty much her whole teeth to the meat. |

Possible, he was a great dane puppy that was roughly the same age. I know that a different, and older Great Dane that liked to throw her around can't anymore.
