Happened to a tomcat of mine 17 years ago. Those little ****ers go ape**** if they sense their eggs/baby birds are in danger.

Thanks. I did wonder if there was a nest nearby.

I noticed my cat sprinting through the cat flap and meowing when he got in, at all hours, I didn't know why but I've seen magpies and blackbirds diving at him in the garden. The other day he was cornered and the magpies were flapping around him, I opened the door and he sprinted inside.

He is a big cat as well surely he would batter them in a fight?

He killed a small magpie earlier today, found it on the lawn.
