I'm norwegian and I've been around on the internet since the mid 90s, but I think it's the first time I ever saw someone totally unprovoked say they like scandinavian traditional music, so I'm just surprised to see it up there. Usually when people like scandinavian music, it's Black Metal or swedish prog.

If you want a recommendation with traditional prog-flavoured folk (with other influences) from Norway, I can recommend Folque's first three albums :
  • Folque, 1974 (LP og CD)
  • Kjempene på Dovrefjell, 1975 (LP og CD)
  • Vardøger, 1977 (LP og CD)

They have more and the rest might be just as good, but those are the ones I know!

OK now I get it, "Somewhere north of you, probably."

My cousin has a huge Metal CD collection and a lot of those bands are from Scadinavian. I had a friend who was huge fan of Scandinavian music, and swore it was better then any pop music he heard. He gave me a list of bands to look up but I lost it. What I know about Scandinavian Trad. is just from "NorthSide," (an American record label) the one band I like is Gjallarhorn. They're sound is more World music and Scandinavian folk blend, they're a Swedish speaking Finnish band.

Thanks a lot for the cd recommendations!
