I hate mainstream music.

Hi all. Im Dillon, I was born and raised in Billy Corgans home state. I love 90's indie/alternative. I hate modern music. I bought The Real Thing by Faith No More when I was 7 and that kicked off my love for 90's. I play bass.

Thats all for now.

Same here. Although I thought Adore wasn't too bad, had its moments

Stand Inside Your Love had a killer solo. Eye was an interesting concept. But niether compare to I Am One or Bury Me.

Mojo 04-20-2010 01:32 AM

You hate all modern mainstream music? Really?

Welcome to the site.

+81 04-20-2010 01:46 AM

Doesn't get any less mainstream than Smashing Pumpkins.

TheCunningStunt 04-20-2010 02:18 AM

What other bands do you like Dillon?

EDIT: I just read your sig, I have a better understanding of what you're into now. ;)

NumberNineDream 04-20-2010 02:51 AM

Is it all modern music hated by yourself?

... and welcome!

Bulldog 04-20-2010 03:22 AM

Not to nitpick, but that album is actually from the 80s.

Anyway, welcome aboard!

Mojo 04-20-2010 04:52 AM

Yeah I was gonna point that out but then again ive heard alot of people say similar things about Appetite For Destruction and The Stone Roses, how those records sparked an interest in music and given the year of release that interest became early 90's music.

Meh.

TheBig3 04-20-2010 08:33 AM

well we don't know when he bought it. And its probably fair to say music didn't do a 180 on January 1st, 1990.

Welcome! You hate modern music? What about today's indie music? Just wondering. I play some bass as well!

Arya Stark 04-20-2010 10:17 AM

Welcome to Music Banter.

duga 04-20-2010 01:18 PM

Adore is completely awesome. People just pick on it because the heavy guitars are gone.

Welcome!

90'sMusicKid 04-20-2010 04:51 PM

To answer some questions. Yes I agree that modern SP is mainstream. I hate zeitgeist with a passion. I realize that The Real Thing is an 80's album, it kicked off my interest for the 90's though. I dont hate all modern music, just modern extremely mainstream music. I dont understand why Hannah Montana, Jason Mraz and Soulja Boy get "best of the year" awards and albums like Black Gives Way To Blue by AIC go unnoticed.

As far as other music interest read my sig.

Alice In Chains
Smashing Pumpkins (early 90's only)
Toadies
RATM
Pixies
Cracker
The Breeders
Faith No More
Feeder

Just to name a few.

Mojo 04-20-2010 06:12 PM

This makes much more sense now. I didnt want to come off as a bit of a tool before so i tried to choose my words carefully. The way you worded things though left me wondering if you were for real or not. I understand now.

I was listening to The Real Thing today. Such an awesome album. Black Sabbath are my favourite band but their cover of War Pigs is just incredible.

OctaneHugo 04-20-2010 06:24 PM

my favorite band is so indie only i know about them
they were called the dancing waffles and i saw them in my basement with 3 other people and killed everyone in the room including the members so only i have heard them
welcome

duga 04-20-2010 06:41 PM

Dude, you know the Dancing Waffles? I heard them, too...can't listen to them anymore. Damn it...and I thought they were pretty good, too...

DeathBreath 04-20-2010 06:43 PM

There's nothing wrong with modern music. Learn to like it, or you'll never get anything new..obviously. You'll be stuck.

thomasracer56 04-20-2010 09:02 PM

I was gonna give you half-credit on the cool-guy-checklist, but reading both the signature and the posts, I'm gonna give full credit on the checklist. Welcome. You especially got me on Rage of the Machines.

AL42228 04-20-2010 09:32 PM

Mainstream has its place. But when you compaire it to underground hip hop lyricaly, i would say underground has so much more power.

90'sMusicKid 04-20-2010 10:05 PM

BTW all, I just made a video for youtube about how much I hate soulja boy. Check it out.

Welcome.

bubu 04-21-2010 10:25 AM

I wonder why mainstream music is never good music, I thought mainstream was supposed to show the trademark of something (like mainstream football, etc)

Insane Guest 04-21-2010 11:00 AM

Mainstream is just popular music. MTV, Vh1, and radio stations want their money. The bigger the fanbase, the better, they'll play anything that gets them money. You hate it, and so do others... Just don't listen to it.

This. I can't stand chart music so I do my best to avoid it/pretend it doesn't exist, it doesn't annoy me because it doesn't affect me.

I see you like Rage Against The Machine? Do you like rapping? There's a guy called P.O.S who does some really great alt. rock/punk rock inspired hip-hop.

Looks like you might like punk. Ever hear the Bad Brains or Minor Threat?

I only listen to rage cause of its metal aspect. Never heard of those.

someonecompletelyrandom 04-21-2010 10:41 PM

Try the Bad Brains album Rock for Light. Minor Threat was pretty short lived so you can get their entire discog on one disc, just called The Complete Discography.

Also check out this band called Scratch Acid. They have a posthumous CD called The Greatest Gift that's really good.

I can "help you find" these albums if you want.

90'sMusicKid 05-08-2010 12:13 AM

I looked on youtube, bad brains is looking pretty neat right now.
