Lone Misfit: I'm sorry - I know very little about Norwegian black metal but I remember hearing somebody discussing Mayhem when I was twelve. The way Per (Dead) Ohlin surrounded himself with dead animals and starved himself and when he committed suicide, the rest of the band took pictures of his corpse and collected fragments of his skull. The photos were used as coverart and the bones made into necklaces. It kind of freaked me out. :')

And there is Varg Vikernes (Burzum) - most Norwegians have heard of him. Convicted for murdering one of Mayhem's band members and for arson on four historic churches, he was sentenced to 21 years of prison. He was released early in 2009. My best friend at university has actually met the guy; in a cozy coffee shop of all places. He didn't have any cash, so she bought him coffee.

EvilChuck: Actually, I'm not from Oslo although I study there now. I have never been to Neseblod Record Store but after checking out their homepage, I think I'll have to pay them a visit! It looks like they have many great CDs in stock to a much better price than anywhere else. Thanks for the recommendation! (Nothing like learning new things about your capital from foreigners!)

Oh, you mean: Vil du høre en vits? Katt med slips! Vil du høre resten? Rompa til presten!

The joke isn't particularly funny, but it rhymes in Norwegian and the phrases are rather silly and random. The last one is "Do you want to here the rest? The priest's bottom." This is probably the first joke one learns as a child and at a age of 3-5 years one finds it hilarious.

Thanks for the warm welcome everybody!

(I tried using the quote-function but apparently that counts as linking and I don't have enough posts to use it yet.)

Yes it was that! I was going to mention the bit about the priest as well, but I thought I might have imagined that :/
