I'm kinda confused about the advertising part. Surely there are forms of advertising one could include that wouldn't be objectionable? Say for example I set up a website for my professional portfolio, or if I were to become involved in a business venture entirely my own.

Would that be entirely inadmissable as it's advertising, or would there still be the traditional leeway extended if it were a longstanding member such as myself?

All of that is advertising. Especially anything that you will make a profit from - so no linking to any personal business sites. We already perma ban people for that.

What if it's just like some dude's Deviant Art page (or whatever)? I mean, they're not really getting money from it and it's not like we've got fifty million people showing up just to advertise their Deviant Art page.

This is just me being curious, BTW. I don't actually have a Deviant Art page.

I would say that new members should err on the side of caution. If you've been a member less than 3 months and you think the link you want to post might be in a gray area, don't post it.

I'd put DeviantArt in the same category as personal blogs or soundcloud pages.
