Smile I'm New

Hello, I'm new here, obviously, and I'm very excited I found this forum. I love music, it is a huge passion of mine. I not only listen to it, but I also play it. I'm a percussionist, so that means I play several different things, including drum set, marching drums, mallet instruments, and then some. Currently I am in marching band in High School as a sophomore. Last year I played Bass Drum, this year Snare. I also want to learn bass guitar, but first I need to improve my drumming skills greatly, and earn some money.

I come here not only to discuss the music I love, but learn about more and discover new music.

I live in Michigan and love it here.

I am not new to forums. I am currently a member of GTPlanet which is a site for a popular gaming series called Gran Turismo. Gaming is another thing I like to do.

I also love cars and motorcycles. My favorite motorsports revolve around motors. I love motocross, Formula One, and a little bit of NASCAR being my favorites. But I enjoy all motorsports. Non-motorsports I enjoy are BMX, skating, and a little bit of snowboarding.

Now the important bits. Rock and Alternative Rock are my favorites. I find the theines between genres of rock very thin so I have trouble defining the genres of bands I like, which may complicate things here. Maybe you can help me. My favorite bands are Greeen Day, Sum 41, Cartel, Billy Talent, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. If you could help me determine these I'd appreciate it.

I'm always open to conversation, so PM away, I'd love to get to know some of you.

Yes, you are right, it can be a bit tricky to dice these all up into tiny little groups. However, I would just call these bands all alternative music. Green Day and Sum 41 are more pop-punk, but all fall under the alternative umbrella. Still, though, not a fan of little labels; seems too much like high school if you ask me.

Welcome to MB, fellow drummer. Do you own a kit or is it just marching band percussion for now?

I have a kit. It's real cheap and I bought it used. The drums themselves don't have a brand name on them. I have Paiste hi-hats and a crash ride. And then a Zildjian A Ride. Not sure how many inches.
