A leap of faith!
 

Hi all,

I'm misspoptart, totally upset by the lack of people in my life that listen to unique and interesting tracks, but also disappointed with the general lack of music appreciation my friends have! Since I moved to a new country, I've relished in exposure to wild and crazy stuff from in and around Europe, but I'm still not satisfied! I'm hoping this community will help that a bit!

So, I like music from probably every genre in every country, and a lot of what I love I probably haven't even discovered yet. My newest addiction is dubstep (I'm a newb, though). I also have a review blog for trashy Euro tunes and their accompanying dumb videos, because in my homeland (the US), we don't get enough of that.

So what country are you in? And who are some of your favorite artists?

I've lived in Istanbul for two years, but I'm originally from Maine.

I hate that question! I feel like if I just list my favorite artists I'll get judged hardcore, because a lot of it is trash and I acknowledge that. The reality is I listen to a healthy dose of everything. But for the sake of being friendly and confident, I can say:

Well, I like a lot of the artists you mention (Atmosphere, Dave Matthews, Parov Stelar, Goldfrapp, Madonna, Outkast, Bonobo, Amon Tobin, Massive Attack, Baaba Maal) so no judgement here. And you mentioned several I don't know so that's always a plus! I think you'll find most people here appreciate people who are fun, open-minded and can talk intelligently about music rather than having some approved list of favorites. :)

Anyway, moving from Maine to Istanbul seems like quite a contrast. How do you like it?

I second the question of how you like Instabul. I'm a fellow traveler, I'm going to move to Nicaragua or awhile in a few weeks. I've always wanted to go to Instanbul, so maybe you can help me decide whether that's a good idea or not.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I love Istanbul. I came as a tourist, but I'm staying for at least two more years. Nicaragua sounds great too, I speak Spanish but I've never been to Central or South America. What will you be doing there?

A classy visual kei band sounds like a gorilla in a tutu. ;)

I'm actually not a member of CS- yet, anyway. I'm working on it.

I'll be studying an doom missionary work. I'll mostly be helping to take care of street children, and distributing food across the country so that the Nicarguan pastors, volunteers and such in charge can feed their starving communities. I'm pretty stoked.

Anyway, when I make a CS account I'll look you up. :)

On the contrary, Batlord, I simply mean that they chose the non-cross dressing path (sortof) and have a more melodic sound! :)

To Blarobbarg, that sounds great. I've never really done anything selfless from the heart before, so I admire you. ^^; It might be hard to couchsurf in poorer parts of the country (less internet access), but I'm sure you can do it! You can also do what others have done in Central America and just explain to people your situation and say you are looking for a host family. Some families just take people in if you agree to help around the house or farm :)
