I'm not sure what you're getting at. It has nothing to do with the quality of the person, it's simply a story about the PR game. People thought Dukakis looked goofy in the helmet and the result was negative PR. Not voting for someone because they look silly in a helmet is a dumb reason to make a political decision but nevertheless these kinds of things do influence votes. Another more recent example of this kind of thing is Howard Dean's weird sounding shriek during the 2004 campaign:

To this day the incident is the point of comparison for failed political PR moves in American politics.
That's really interesting, but it also made your comparison so much funnier.

that's pretty much it. i always found George W. to look incredibly goofy whenever he'd pose on aircraft carriers or in military gear. somehow his PR people used the same trick and the public reacted completely differently. like i said, the only difference i see is a change in hand gestures.

regardless this isn't a thread about politics.

Well, I agree with you, but I guess he (or his people) was/were a lot better at PR manipulation since he got elected president twice.

Ha ha! I remember Dean's scream. After he screamed, I turned to the person sitting with me on the sofa and whimpered, "I'm scared."

Okey-dokey, back to the attention whoring!

Here's a picture I took of myself and my violin last month. My mother bought the dress for me perhaps 20 years ago, and I had completely forgotten about it until I found the dress in a closet while preparing for my photo shoot.

If I don't say so myself (but I do!), I think this photo turned out quite nicely!

Nice picture. I don't think I've ever seen a really clear picture of you, but that is almost exactly how I pictured you. I've always wanted to learn the violin...

You know, I don't think it's at all possible to put a positive spin on that comment.

Not if you want to be treated like a sex object.

Ponder on that one.
